So, when I first got them on I was looking for "base" settings to start with and was very hard pressed to find any that worked. I soon realized that a few external factors do affect the way you set them - namely wheel type, tire type, tire pressure, driving style, additional weight - just to name a few. After a few calls (hours) with KING Customer Support (they are UH-Mazing I might add) and some time with my buddy who rebuilds shocks I was able to understand suspension dynamics a lot better and how the "adjuster clicks" affect the ride. Anyways, after extensive testing on both off-road and on-road I have come up with some "starter/base settings" that will hopefully help future KING owners with their initial setup. A few things to note about my Bronco though......
My driving style is very fast on the trails. It is true what they say about KINGs - the faster you go, the better they get. But there are even sections I go through at slower speeds and ask myself "how did I barely feel that?" The trail I did tonight was a total combination of around 29 miles. None of it is "fire-road-flat." It is mostly undulating terrain that is rocky, has off camber turns, and has a fair amount of small-medium sized whoops. It's the Vegas desert, so that kind of terrain. I have my KINGs tuned to a point where some sections, where I was going 50+ MPH, felt like smooth gravel. Just blows my mind how amazing they are. Anyways, here is pic for reference - so you can see my ride height (cause this does greatly affect the usage of its shock travel sweet-spot).
- 4 door, Front winch, Full RCI Armor and other than a small fridge and my recovery gear, no more additional weight.
- RTR 17 inch wheels (about 22lb each)
- Toyo Open Country M/T 35s
- My ride height is about what they want it at from the factory - if maybe 1/2 inch higher to compensate for the winch and then level the rest out (see pic below)
- 32 psi (cold) - 11 front / 9 rear
- Alone or up to 2 passengers - 19psi (at air down) / 15 front / 13 rear
- 3 or more passengers - 19 psi (at air down) / 16 front / 14 rear
