I want to paint my flares to color match my HPR Wildtrak. I swear I saw something here about a paint that you mix to make a suitable material for exterior paint on a car and I also thought I bookmarked it. I cannot find anything about it now. Does anyone know what I'm talking about or did I imagine it?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. I even recall that whoever posted said they had some of the "stuff" left over and would sell it here.

So, after searching a bit more, I found what I was looking for--prismatic powders. Unfortunately, as i went down the rabbit hole, I learned that its use case is for metal, so I guess it cannot be used for fender flares.

If you’re wanting to paint them to match, you should really check out
“Automotive Touchup” . They will use factory paint code and you can get it in aerosol spray cans as well as touch up jars. I have painted flares(OBX), and they do get chipped. I have actually been contemplating getting them color matched with linex to prevent the chips but haven’t decided.

Regardless of professional or DIY - I would suggest the addition of a flex additive to the paint so it doesn’t crack during thermal expansion/contraction or minor bends under load or stress. YMMV

Ford Bronco Paint for flares i-gFWSfLZ-X3

I have the Lethal Painted Flares on mine and am super happy with them. I drive 50 miles a day, half of which is highway, with no issues. I do swap them out for the stock ones if I'm going offroading, which is a nice option to have, but otherwise the painted ones are on.

👀 ❤🗽

I used touchupdirect.com when I color matched the beauty rings of my Badlands however, I didn’t need any flex agent for that application - you should consult with them on their suggested product and they can likely include it in the can/bottle they sell you.

If you are having them professionally painted, I am sure the shop has a preferred vendor (likely PPG).

My advice would be
  • Do it correctly the first time.
  • If you have the equipment and skill to spray automotive grade paint go for it. If you don't get a few bids from local shops.
  • If you are thinking of using a rattle can solution don't do it
  • If you use rattle can paint and then it starts to fail and look bad, (it will) the cost for a shop to correct the problem will likely make you really sad
