On this thing? No. On other vehicles? Yes.

They might warranty it, but a lot of dealers don't like to - because 'glass isn't covered' by warranty even though the rear defroster is.

That said there are two fixes - the stuff in the tube you can buy at the auto parts store, or replace the entire back glass. Personally I'd want the back glass replaced but that's me.

The dealer was going to replace it, but Ford is making them try the repairs, they tried soldering that didn’t work now the are going to try an epoxy.

The rear glass and the terminal that separate from it are both covered under 3/36

Oh I agree that it most definitely should be. But I have come across people who were told by their dealer that it glass WASN'T covered, and that because the glass would have to be replaced that it wouldn't be a covered repair. More likely the dealer just didn't want to deal with fixing it properly and wanted them to go to a local glass shop to have the tab glued back on, but this story DOES get floated around that it isn't covered.

That’s exactly what happened to me. I first tried to epoxy using the Permax kit and it failed twice so I brought it into the dealer. They first tried to epoxy it And it failed again. Then they brought their glass guy in and he soldered it and that too failed after just a week. They ultimately replaced the glass under warranty.

I had the rear window replaced 3 weeks ago under warranty for the connection popping off. They didn't try to repair it, only replaced.

@JLC64UK

Don't know if the adhesive has any conductivity qualities or not like I'd think a solder would have but the defroster still worked fine.

It really is a crappy design and I'm super careful with the rear hatch since I had a couple of years waiting and reading about them popping off, I don't get anywhere near the connection and don't slam the glass but doesn't seem to matter.

Yeah, and it’s the customers fault in the end until they low-key admit it’s a poor design by changing it on future generations.

I was watching a Vaughn Gittin Jr. video the other day on YouTube where he was wheeling trails in his fun haver Bronco and couldn’t help but notice both the rear defrost wires hanging freely. Haha 😂
