After winning the @WolfBox mystery box for May in the sponsor section of the forum, figure I’d post my thoughts if anyone else was considering a dash/action cam.

I’ve been wanting to get a dash camera for a while, especially dealing with Atlanta Traffic, but finding the right one was a bit overwhelming. My first thoughts after unboxing left me really impressed with the quality of the camera.

There are multiple ways to mount it either over or replacing the rear view mirror and now with the Tri version of the G900 the rear and cabin camera can both be used at the same time. There is even a GPS unit to support speed and direction details when driving or recording.

Decided to order a few extra accessories before installing from Wolfbox’s website. I went with the OEM mount, hardwire kit, and rear camera license plate mount.

Overall the install was very easy and pretty much plug and play which was a big plus! First removing the OEM rear view mirror, which was only secured by a torx screw, and mounted the WolfBox to the windshield. There are a few threads I referenced to make sure I did it right, so instead of detailing those steps again, check out the two linked threads below from @Bird Dog Off Road and @TheLawnDart .

For the rear camera, I struggled finding where I wanted to install. Since I’m running a 37inch spare tire with the Turn off-road reinforcement kit, I wanted to make sure the view wasn’t obstructed. Putting it on top of the brake light was one option and license plate mount the second. I left the wires relatively loose so I can re-asses after a few trips if the license plate mount was the right call. The good news is you can tilt the camera up and down from the mirror so it makes up for the height difference.

I strongly recommend the hardwire kit, the fuse taps made it super simple and no wire splicing needed. I followed TheLawnDart’s thread below to determine which fuses needed to be used and they were spot on. I also put the GPS unit in the center of the dash next to the sensor by the windshield. Cleaning up the wiring is the final item I’ll need to do when my garage cools down a bit.

Overall I’m very impressed with the WolfBox setup, so much so I’ll be buying a second for my other vehicle. Being able to swipe between cameras, record on road and trail rides, and having the always on parking recording checked all the boxes. The big benefit for me though was having an unobstructed rear mirror option now. Between putting the soft top down, big spare tire, and third brake light, my rear view was getting more limited, now that’s no longer an issue since the rear camera has direct views behind me. Hope this helps anyone considering a dash/action cam combo for their Bronco!

waiting for mine to arrive. I'm tired of being blind going up a hill on the trails. Nice post. I was planning on dropping the rear camera underneath facing the rear diff, and the front in one of the large circle holes on by front skid.

Def going to do the loose wire install first like you did to make sure I got them where I want them.

Does it record to the cloud when the vehicle is off? i.e. will it work like a "sentry mode" or something to record any unwanted attention around your vehicle? And is it accessible from anywhere via phone to check streaming feeds?

Yes, with the hardwire kit installed, it has constant power so will record when the power is off. There is an option to record based on the built in G sensor, which has a low, medium, and high sensitivity setting, or you can set to record so many hours after the truck is turned off.

All recordings are saved to the SD card but can be accessed via WiFi on your phone as long as you’re within range of the truck. There are both 2.4 and 5GHz WiFi options which I imagine would change the distance away you have to be. Once connected via WiFi to the camera, you can download any videos to your phone.

i think it just records to the SD, parking mode does 1 frame per second for a range of different intervals you can set (up to 48 hours). It is not accessible via the app / phone outside the range of the wifi signal of the base mirror

Thx for the info, I just ordered the wiring kit for the G900 I ordered during Prime Day ($162!).
Also ordered a mounting bracket that I hope is compatible so that I don't have to hang the Wolfbox over the OEM mirror!

I'm hitting a few different threads about the Wolfbox here on the forum to ask the same question:

How is the visibility on the LCD "mirror" when you have the top off of your Bronco and the sun is hitting the screen?

One of the nice things about a traditional mirror is that it works in bright sunlight. I'm a little worried that these screens will wash out in bright sunlight and then the rearview feature will be rather useless.

When in direct sunlight there is some washout on the screen, but I added the anti glare screen protector which seemed to help. Visibility was a bit less in direct sun but could still see enough to function.

The best part having the camera in the back, blind spots are a lot less especially when you put the soft top all the way back

Is anyone else's vibrate a lot? with the motor running, car in park, the mirror shakes / vibrates. Went on a trip sunday and it drives me nuts. everything is tightened up, it is the mount itself. almost like it isn't secure enough at the swivel.

Are you using the OEM mount or the rubber straps? Mine barely rattles, the rear camera shakes a tad at highway speed but that’s mainly due to how it’s attached right now.

If it’s the WolfBox OEM mount, maybe the set screw wiggled loose?

The vibration is real, especially at highway speeds. I’m using the Wolfbox OEM mount, it's as tight as I can get it. Sorry for the video moving around, this didn't really capture it very well.

I'm seeing different ways to fix this on the internet, basically using something in between the mount backplate and the mirror. Double sided tape, one guy used a sponge, felt, etc.
