I don't get angry, I just can't understand the disrespect that has grown in the automotive community.
It used to be that pretty much everyone understood "Look but don't touch".
You admired with your eyes and not your hands.
I go to shows all the time, and have seen parents putting their kids on $200k vehicles for a photo op.... So it isn't just Jeep and Bronco people.
It seems to be an entitlement mentality that is growing across the board.

I feel you man, and agree, it is confusing what "some people" might do. I think what's changed is us, though; we've grown older, worked to earn what he have, and suddenly those polite society rules of respectability start to make sense. Some people never learned them, or (horror!) don't care.

I've known some rednecks that wouldn't give two shits for some $200k car but hey, if you're flooded out and need a great big neighborly hand, they're the ones that'll come through for you. It's takes all kinds.

Life is a wonder, a rubber duck on a windshield wiper or (dangit!) a scratch from a well-intended but not well-executed drive-by of my ride, yeah I'd be irritated. But I hope I'd get over it and see it for what it is. We grimace now, but hopefully laugh later. Life is too short for these kind of hurt feelings.

I view the whole duck thing as some attempt to feel some sense of 'community' with other jeep owners. It's brilliant marketing for whoever came up with that nonsense. People who ordinarily wouldn't buy a jeep will do so because of that sense of community. They're spending a lot of money to get someone to wave at them or to leave a rubber duck on their car. It's the affirmation that they are included and not rejected. It makes them feel cool and special to be part of something 'bigger' than they are, and I don't think that they really understand that not everyone is looking for that quirky sense of community and in fact, finds attempts at it being shoved down their throats to be highly annoying.

Kinda just the nature of humans these days. Bronco with all kinds of ridiculous crap bolted on to it that achieves a look of performance will get ridiculous amounts of attention. When in reality it performs worse than stock. Then you’ll have something that’s truly impressive but not covered in stickers and adhesive-backed carbon fiber, requiring onlookers to actually know what they’re looking at- Meh. Moving on. Or talking shit. Had a dude talk shit about wifey’s ride. Called her out when she referenced it as a “build” because she has stock wheels. And of course, homie’s “build” was puck spacers, fake beadlocks with 37’s, and some lights.
