In addition to cleaning and driving around sans top for the first time today, I installed a Tuffy console vault. The installation is relatively straightforward with no real gotchas other than the proximity of the bottom screws to the side of the console. They would have been much better off going with Allen head screws as opposed to Philips screws. It's sort of a pain to get them threaded and then tighten with a normal screwdriver as they're millimeters off the side of the console.
I went with the Tuffy for three reasons. First, it has a larger opening than the Ford-branded version and two, the full length piano hinge is far beefier than the eBay/Amazon Chinese specials. Third, it's made in the USA.
I went with the code version and I have a "routine" that's faster than pulling keys out of my pocket. It's JUST large enough for an LTT PX4 compact carry with comp and an EPS RDO. The flush 15 round mag fits, extended mags do not. I plan on a semi permanent holster setup so the grip is pointed up. As is, it's wedged in there so it doesn't really move around. To me, this setup beats something like a Vaultek which I've been using for the past year.
Anyway, there's really no side to side play. The Tuffy has "wings" which get installed after you wedge the main body into the console.
It's a squeeze but it'll work for now.
