What is that plug looking thing on the inside drivers rear panel?

All right - been thinking about this for a couple weeks now and I just can’t come up with a theory as to what the hell this thing is for? Only thing I can come up with is that it is to support some accessory that I don’t have like a rear cover or something. But there’s no mate to it on the other side.

So I give up. Somebody want to tell me what this is for?
