3-22-25 was an awesome day for our spring bunny bash!
We headed out of the Windrock general store parking lot after 8:30 am. Our trail guide was way more disorganized this ride than normal (Me). We rolled north for about 30 minutes. Till we reached G53. It is an easy trail that gets us closer to our first area we wanted to explore. This area is the extreme north east part of the park.
We assembled the group and aired down. We had 3 Broncos Jason in his trusty Toyota and David in his loaded down LJ (He is test riding for a multi mile camp/wheeling trip out west). Davids's rig weighed in just under the #6k mark.
As we made it to trail 72 we found some mild obstacles going down the ridge. We took the harder lines on some and many commented on what this would be like if we were going up it. There are many creeks near this trail flowing down the mountain that we took pictures of.
All and all 72 was a rutted hill with rocky patches that were interesting and occasionally needed rear locker. Some of the harder lines were made more simple with front locker. That is all going downhill. I would suggest team 2DR have 35's skids and rear locker with winch for this trail. team 4DR the same except for 37's. You would in my opinion need a rear locker going up, unless you like winching a lot.
We made it to G55 where 72 connects and started up the mountain. G55 is a washed-out defunct gas line road leading to the top of the mountain. It is tight with technical washouts and rocks thrown in for good measure.
We made our way winding and pushing further and further up crisscrossing washouts as the day warmed and we peeled off layers.
From here we took a couple of connecter trails to make 70. We started on 70 and found a cool small waterfall. We made our way around to where we were overlooking Rocky top TN from a few miles out. We were surprised at how easy 70 was so far.
We then found the section the trail was rated on. Of course, pictures do it no justice, a steep rocky downhill that then broke at a small creek to a smoother but steep up hill.
This trail drops to the bottom of G55 that we had traversed earlier that day. We headed up G55 to do the portion we had not yet done. It was the same as earlier was. We then turned on 72 and made the climb up it which was an adventure after I dug the trail out when my procal dropped the programming where I had it out of the bounds of tire size. I lost sway bar disco and lockers as well as all goat modes. I relied on swampers and motor and a shovel to get me past the high centering clay. I got on flatter ground and programmed the Bronco again. it took in a couple of tries and I was good. The only issue was that I was leading and made it harder for everyone behind me to get past the high centering clay. In a bit and a few pulls we were all up and made our way off the trails!
