You don’t have to total it to avoid taking a depreciation hit. When I hit a deer in my Denali 3500, the insurance company took care of the repair and paid about $2500 to me for a depreciation hit. Still had a clean title too.

Heartbreaking I am sure, but thank God your wife is ok.
From the pics it look like the frame may be bent based on the driver door.
If so, it's best to be totaled because it'll never be the same.
Hoping everything works out in your favor no matter the outcome.

On a side note, did anyone notice the fine front and side window tint job on the Explorer? 🤦‍♂️

Bummer is, if it’s totaled, they’ll take it as is and i’ll loose all my aftermarket parts.
You can talk to the insurance company. Sometimes they will let you remove some stuff because it is not part of the "original". Sometimes they will pay you for any upgrades that are on there. If you are dealing with your insurance because the other guy does not have any or not enough, go though your agent to fight for your stuff or the value of the upgrades. A lot of carriers are totaling Broncos because it is easier than payung for long term rental while the shop waits for parts. Not sure if this is completely accurate since you are in CA. That is what I would do here in VA.

I would already have tools in my hand taking my aftermarket parts off of it.

What’s an uninsured motorist….. I thought “laws” required insurance??
Uninsured Motorist is for health coverage of yourself and other occupants of your car if you get hit by an uninsured motorist. But most insurance companies don’t recommend UM any longer because of law changes around Obamacare.
Collision coverage is what protects your vehicle when damaged by an uninsured motorist.

Your right, my insurance doesn't let me choose UM if I have proper Collision coverage, but I carry a higher amount with a lower deductible to cover against UM.

So, still full coverage is needed.

California - probably repaired.

A lot of these are getting totaled with very minor damage due to the extremely high salvage value. But I think Cali is a straight percent damage state not percent plus residual.

Unfortunately we're in California and even worse Los Angeles county so it's unlikely anything will happen to the at fault driver. Even if he was uninsured, which is very common here, I doubt the police will bother doing anything since no one was hurt. The drugs would only matter if they thought he was selling them. I've had friends hit by uninsured drivers and the police said well that's why you have uninsured coverage. One friend was hit in a Target parking lot. Police said they wouldn't show up for at least 2 hours and told him to exchange info with the other driver and file a report. He got drivers license, vehicle plate number and pictures of the car and driver. When he filed the report both license and plate were fraudulent. The DL didn't match and the plate was from a different vehicle. LA County Sheriff said oh well turn it into your insurance and move on. Learned from that to also write down or take a picture of the VIN in that situation. Sucks but that's how things are.

Sorry it happened and glad everyone walked away. Sucks to have some degenerate have such a negative and long lasting impact on your life. Make sure your wife is mentally well and wish the Bronco goes away. The emotional trauma from the accident could be long lasting for her. Make sure you check with her on keeping it. It is technically a daily reminder of a near death experience.

The airbag glasses can adversely affect cheap window tinting.
