But theres a tach in the center of the dash. Granted its not very efficient but unless youve got a manual its really not necessary.

No Analog Dial Tach. Sorry, I should have been more specific.

Nice if it works for you, but I have some asinine BS dial gauge constantly polishing off the EPA about my instantaneous MPG which is not critical for driving and rather distracting. There should be a dial tach in there, no excuse. I just have to have enough free time and blackmail material to get the NHTSA, lol, to say that a dial tach is a safety requirement for manual transmission vehicles.

Honestly, even if was set up with the horizontal digital bar like on MOTEC dashes I'd be fine.

The vertical bar with two speedos is just genuinely asinine design. Ford really should've fired the UI designers who came up with it, and their bosses for approving it.

Can you ever really know too much about what's going on in your engine?

If you have to stare at a tachometer while driving manual you shouldn't be driving a manual.

Edit: op has a automatic so his post checks out.
Generally yeah, but sometimes you're just in an environment where you can't hear what's going on. And having a tach I don't need to look at in order to parse information from is a good thing. That's why needle gauges and motec style digital tachs exist, you can get the necessary information into your brain by having them in your peripheral vision.

Are you really gonna tell me you've never looked at your tach while driving?

Yes when it makes it not fun to drive anymore because youre caught up in your tachometer… disclaimer,I used to be like that but my bronco isnt a deleted 6.7 diesel so im not concerned anymore about temps and egts and tachs but hey if it makes you happy thats what counts..

Rarely, I shift when I get to the meat of the torque and then move to the next. About the only thing I look at is the speedo to make sure I'm legal but most of the time I am knowing the gear I'm in and the way the vehicle feels/sounds.

An old thread but I would like to revisit!

Do I need an analog tach? No.

Do I want an analog tach? Yes!

What did you tap into to get a reading? Does the dashboard tach still operate?

Anymore photos/video with it in action?!

Thanks.
