Big Bend National Park is roughly 4 times bigger than Big Bend Ranch State Park, about 2,200 square miles vs 485 square miles.
Good to know. For comparison purposes, that puts the National Park roughly equivalent to the state of Delaware (2,489 sq.miles) and the state park to Guam (571). As things look now, I can't make a major excursion until next winter, so Big Bend and the Deep South are looking more likely.

I never felt unsafe there. You are probably 1,000 times more likely to die in Big Bend from dehydration or heat exhaustion than from illegal activity.
I moved to Terlingua about 2 1/2 years ago and have never personally encountered anything or anyone that made me feel unsafe. That being said it never hurts to be aware of your surroundings.

things I'm interested in are the Oklahoma panhandle….
That’s interesting. Grew up in OK. Been through the panhandle a few times and don’t particularly enjoy it. Very flat with red dirt. There are the Glass Mountains but IMO they are overhyped.

A few years back we took a trip from OKC area out west through AZ, NM and NV. On the way back shot up through UT and CO before heading back. Saw some gorgeous places along the way but the panhandle seemed very mellow in comparison.

Acknowledged. Sort of a "just because it's there" thing. Similarly, the Angle Inlet, MN, the northern-most place in the Lower 48: "just because it's there." It's on the other side of a lake, and you either fly there on a float plane, boat there, and pass through a bit of Canada to drive. Small, just hunting & fishing, but it's "there." My problem: I have an unpaid parking ticket from Montreal, and if I attempted to access Canada they'd probably arrest me, or impound my Bronco, or something.

We saw your video yesterday searching for Big Bend National Park videos.

We leave Friday morning for our trip to BBNP, Guadalupe Mountains and Carlsbad. 9 days total.
Awesome!! I hope you love it as much as we did

Loved the video! My buddy and I stayed at Robbers Roost for a few nights about 10 years ago and it was great but I remember wishing we had tried the state park because it allowed fires and we did get chilly! We got ambitious one day and decided to go cross country and climb Chilicotal Mtn. and it did not disappoint! We saw a gigantic buck up there and were greeted with this view of the Chisos to the northwest.

I live in Dallas, and Big Bend National Park is one of my favorite places to visit. I highly recommend you all take your Broncos through what i call, “The West Texas Pilgrimage”. One of the more beautiful drives in the country, and a perfect way to wrap up a weekend in the park.

Terlingua > Lajitas > Presidio > Marfa > Alpine > Marathon > Home

Lots of beautiful views, wild life, and memories to be made along the way.

I took 2 of my boys to Big Bend for the holiday weekend. We hiked a couple of trails, then drove down Glenn Springs Road and Black Gap. I have a video of us coming up Black Gap but I guess it is too big to upload.
We camped at Fresno 1 by Mariscal Mine and then drove out River Road East the next day. I aired down to 20 psi. I definitely didn't need to but I have the equipment and it made the ride a bit smoother. Another great trip in Big Bend. Definitely one of my favorite places to visit.

During summer the lower rio grande areas are no joke with 107-111 degree heat but higher elevations are very comfortable to camp at.

Budget Bronco, were you guys able to pay for everything with US dollars on MX side? I didn’t cross over when I was there but thinking of crossing on next trip out there.

Yes - bring cash - important to know that the main restaurants (Falcons) only take cash - so bring some large bills for lunch ($100 if you're drinking a lot of margs) and small bills ($1, $5) for vendors.
