We decided to check out Lazy Springs off road park outside of Lehigh Acres, FL yesterday. We also wanted to try going completely topless with doors off (mistake, more down below). We’ve been topless but first for doorless. We loved it while road driving. Loaded a cooler, some chairs, cheap ez-up, the wife and my youngest and headed out. I’ve known about the place for a long time, on the motocross side of it, never rode there but always knew of it.
Lazy Springs is a big place, a lot of large ponds, for small boats, jet skis, rope swings etc. They have random rock gardens and climbs for more capable crawlers. Buggies, dirt bikes, atv’s, utv’s were randomly everywhere which was chaotic, head on a swivel even though the posted speed is supposed to be 10mph. The no helmets everywhere freaked me out. Some small mud holes here and there which I imagine will be big mud holes in a few months. The chaos is why the topless doorless thing was a bad idea, dust everywhere. Made for some extra work cleaning it up. None the less it was still great.
There were some rocky hills with trails that cut through the top and ups and downs all over the sides. That’s what I wanted to check out. I lowered the tire pressure to 21, and we cruised whatever we could for a few hours. It was a blast. I just wish the there were longer trails. So as to not have to repeat so often. There were tons of big rocks to crawl over and also avoid. I did make pretty good contact with a big boulder on the backside of a decline. I didn’t see any damage, not even sure what made contact with it. Will have to get the creeper underneath and look. The only other vehicles I saw going over this section as far as road legal vehicles were some lifted Jeeps, a 4 Runner, and a few Porsche Cayennes. Lol. Stock Jeeps and Gladiators were on the lower trails and they were in the mud holes. Only one rock garden was being used and it was held up with an (I think, didn’t pay too much mind) old Rover using an airbag to jack it up to change a wheel.
I gotta say, the jeep heads that were there seemed like jack wagons. None waved, even if I did. When they were parked, we got stares of death as we drove by. I had one ride my ass down a sandy whooped out trail, for no reason, plenty of places to go and no one else was near us. Strange. One Gladiator kept taking pics when I was driving over things. People in buggies were snapping pics of the Bronco also. Kind of funny.
All in all we had a blast, we can’t wait to return. This was low skill level stuff, but it was better than the flat sandy with strewn mud hole trails we had been cruising. I just cruised in Baja mode in 4L and manual the whole day, when I needed to cruise, 5th gear was low R’s, similar to 1st in high. This stuff was effortless for the Bronco. Got her home and cleaned all up on the inside and put back together again.
