Plastic Piece in Oil Filter Housing

Found this in the oil filter basin after pulling the oil filter today. Did a thorough check of the filter itself and the filter cap and no pieces were broken or missing. it is possible that it broke off a previous filter and was just in the basin (no where for it to go once the filter is inserted). Serves as a reminder to check the basin as well at every oil change.

The ends of the plastic are smooth and the top side is beveled. You can see on the bottom side where broke off.

Long shot, but anyone have an idea of what it might be and from what part of the engine it originated?

I haven't changed my oil enough times yet, is it a holder tab off the housing possibly to center the oil filter. Had this happen on the wife's heep.

Yep. Ive got my oem oil filter housing, as a spare. Quick look and it does match a centering / mounting mold for the Oil Filters 'Red Rocket'.

I looked at the centering "rod" really closely and did not see any missing parts. I have a new spare. I'll spend more time examining on my next oil change.
