What's the difference between an engineer and a smart person? Well I've got a theory about that... lol

It's fun being an engineer until your space toilet doesn't flush.

2024 Wildtrak. 14k miles.

Did my 3rd oil change a few weeks ago. The first 2 were done at a buddy's shop and I confirmed that they didn't do the Priming process after the changes were done. Amsoil used. No issues.

I finally had some free time the other day I changed it myself. No issues. I had seen a YT vid where the guy did the priming afterwards so I thought I'd do it. No issues. Ever since then the Bronco tranny is not the same. In particular, the upshifts are rough and sometimes it feels like it's holding in the gears for too long instead of downshifting and "bogging" the tranny.

No codes/lights. Nothing else was touched. Nothing out of place.

Even if the priming process somehow reset the tranny's learning process, I've driven several hundred miles since and it should have re-learned by now. Make it make sense.

Any ideas?

What is this "priming process" you mention? I've never heard of that.... 🤔

I hadn't either and I'm really thinking it fucked something up. Bronco was fine that morning. I changed my oil. Primed it. Started it up and let it run a minute. Shut it down and went inside. The next day I had to rin an errand and the shitty shifting was noticeable immediately

@not on the rug, I've used the priming function for the four oil changes I've performed on both of our WTs (one of which is the less desirable 4-door variant, too) and it has not caused any issues for me.

What @not on the rug posted, but with an exception:
It’s a mode that is designed to clear the cylinders out by cranking the engine over without firing the injectors. Doesn’t affect the plugs or spark.

For whatever reason, people have decided to start doing it during oil changes, which is completely unnecessary, but that’s beside the point. To each their own lol

Circulating the oil using clear flood mode doesn’t prevent anything, because the engine is not “dry” after an oil change to begin with.
Not to mention, simply starting the engine instead will create not only more oil pressure, but pressure much faster than clear flood mode.

I'll certainly never do it again. That's for damn sure

I believe Google suggested I use it.....and Google is NEVER wrong. I would not doubt if Google picked up that little tid bit of genius off the 6G forum somewhere. I've seen other Google pieces of wisdom that were clearly lifted from some yahoo's 6G posts.

Lol like I said, to each their own. It won’t harm anything if you continue to do it……
Unless you’re @not on the rug 😂

But seriously, I still can’t see any correlation between the 2 things here.

Agree, that is just silly for an oil change. Pre-filling the filter is a better habit. 🤠

Sounds like the typical customer complaint template, "ever since you changed my oil"....insert random other issue here.
Most likely a coincidence. Or perhaps your trans was jealous that the engine got some fresh fluids.

I am assuming coincidence for sure. But I'm also a lifelong car guy, have done hundreds of oil changes and all sorts of maintenance and builds over the years. I'm not your typical dipshit customer. There were absolutely no issues with the way this thing drove prior to the oil change and an absolute noticeable difference afterwards.

Did I miss if you checked for a recent OTA update?

I checked yesterday and the only update I had recently is the one for the blank screen recall or whatever. 26S09. On 5/15/26
I had the window performance update on 5/11/26.
10.1.1. On 4/7 and 10.1.0 on 1/26.

My app showed the blank screen recall update as being the last, but my truck showed the failed PCM update for the HVAC. The mystery continues. Did you try the computer reset pulling the battery power yet?

Neither my truck nor the ford account shows that PCM update.

No codes shown on the account either. I had to pick up a new OBD reader anyway, so I'm going to scan the truck this afternoon. Then I'm going to pull the negaitve battery cable. Just been super busy and I'm working now, have a phone interview at 3 and then I'll get to the truck around 4.
