Recently went off the deep end and decided to sell my beloved sports car(R8) and get a bit more adventurous ..

I've been wanting a side by side for a couple years now and finally decided they are just too good to pass up these days, but the price is a bit steep for the one I wanted....my financial advisor said "go ahead" "but you are selling the other toy"

Lucky for me, the R8 will fetch enough money for the new toy and a 2017-2020 Gen 2 Raptor, so I decided to pull the trigger... I've wanted a Raptor since first seeing them when they came out in 2010
trying to stay under $40K so it is a high mile gen 2 or a low mile gen 1....really love the looks of the gen 2, but love the sound and durability of the gen 1

The Bronco unfortunately only has a 3500 lbs max towing capacity so I need to get somehting that can easily pull the 3800 lbs set up of the new toy and trailer and the Raptor is my choice.

I have been digging into the Raptors lately and I'm aware of the some of the issues....anyone on here have experience with the Raptor on here???

btw, she is going up on BaT soon if you are interested in a minty 2010 gaed manual R8

The Bronco Raptor has 4500lb of towing capacity. That way you can still stay in a Bronco. Under $40 might be an issue.

Currently own 2 Gen1 Raptor. 2010 and 2014. Plus my Braptor. The Gen1s are very reliable but buying one now you need to make sure it’s not beat up. There are some out there. I stick with the 6.2L as I have had the 3.5 eco and not a fan. The 3.0L in my Braptor has been good so far.

I would go used tremor to be honest or f250 tremor If you are looking for a tow vehicle. seems like the SxS is your dedicated off roader. I would be guessing you would be loading up the truck bed with other stuff/supplies ect.. the raptor can do it but it will sag and you will want to upgrade the rear leaf springs. My guess is you will like having a raptor but I think it will struggle as a tow vehicle and you will run into issues. Had 2018 raptor fwiw and currently Braptor

Fully agree. Ive got a 2012 w/ 120,xxx miles on it; bought from some small lot dealer in my town for $16.5k.
It was a bit rough, but all maintenance things old dudes don't know about like rebuilding the fox shocks and the like.

They're great trucks, but to find one with low mileage is near impossible, or you'll find a high mileage and sink $15,000 into it immediately so it can run like it should. I think its all worth it for that Gen Juan sound though.

Everything is available for the right price, but $40K won’t cut it 😂

you'd be surprised...the market is flooded with these right now.
can get 2020 Raptors mid to high $30's these days if you expand your search radius and ok with a 100k mile example.

Really want a 2020 for multiple reason(last year of the Gen2)

but looking at a nice blue 2018 certified pretty close to me right now for just over $30k ..granted it has 125k miles

too bad they only made the avalanche color in 2017 though.

still have the 2022 Big Bend Sasquatch in the fleet.

always wanted a Raptor and the 8000 lbs towing capacity is plenty for my 3800 lbs set up

Yeah, but I personally wouldn’t buy a Gen 2 with 100K + miles on it. Good luck in your search.

yeah, it is too bad they didn't keep the 6.2 in the gen 2...

a gen 2 with a 6.2 would have been perfect.

still keeping an open mind to the gen 1, but really love the looks and tech/int of the gen 2

I think as long as it has a good service history and cam phasers fixed, you can find some very clean examples out there....

there are some for sale with over 200k miles, so they have shown to be able to be to be pretty durable

That is why I want a 2020, they fixed the cam phaser issues in late 2019, so you don't have to worry about that at least...also has the live 3.0 fox after 2019.

That’s an “urban myth”. Any Ford motor, Raptor & Bronco since we’re on this site, can have phaser issues, any year. But I do agree ‘20 is the best Gen 2 to get, that’s why I have one. Eventually I’ll get an R, waiting for the BS markup to drop even more.

Also the ‘20s had live valves, however the 3.0 are the Race Series for about $7500. Highly recommended!

I have my 2014 Gen1. Last of the real Raptors. The only SVT raptor. I love that truck, been almost trouble free for 140K miles. Air conditioning finally needed a going through, other than that, nothing other than routine maintenance. I like the less technology of it. One off-road mode "Baja". A much more visceral experience driving than the new stuff. Just had an offer for it of 60K. Wouldn't sell it.

I've got both a gen 1 and a braptor. The braptor tows great, I routinely tow a 4k lb camper with no issues. With a good tune it's a blast to drive.

My gen 1 raptor is my fav, smooth strong acceleration and I love the borla exhaust note. I've got 220k on it, I wore out and replaced the shocks but other than that no major issues.
