I DO care about newbs listening/reading how to worthlessly spend time and money because they might believe, unthinkingly, some of the laboratory, not real life, stuff spread by oil fanaticism.

Some folks don't analyze, or consider.
They need to know the truth, the truth that was coaxed out;
Probably no value for 150,000 miles and then questionable value afterward.

"Cheap Brand X will net you, maybe 150k miles before things start to get dirty and impact reliability, whereas Premium Brand Y might be able to get you to 400k miles."

Above; that's what was said when coaxed to say it.
as said, as written.
I've said nothing different.
I think nothing(much)different.

I don't understand paying extra for a premium synthetic oil, then following an oil change interval that's designed for dinosaur oil. The premium oils are designed for modern engines with turbos etc.

Seems like throwing money away. But then the placebo effect applies to car ownership and there is a "feel good" factor. I've never seen any solid and reliable documentation that supports spending money like that. Much seems to be "that's what I saw on the internet," "that's how we did it years ago," "I read about it years ago and it makes sense," etc. But never any solid documentation. I prefer facts and not hearsay when I'm making decisions about how to maintain my Bronco.

Well...

... This is what most people are thinking of when they are looking at all this oil analysis. Cheap Brand X on a 10,000 mile schedule will net you, maybe 150k miles before things start to get dirty and impact reliability, whereas Premium Brand Y might be able to get you to 400k miles on a 5,000 mile schedule.

...

If you are one of those people that gets a new vehicle every 3-5 years, then you probably don't care at all - the consequences of doing the standard duty oil change will probably never catch up to you and the engine will probably run perfectly fine for the entire time you own the vehicle. But if you are one of those who buy a vehicle for 10yrs-life... then you care very much...

The fuel dilution generated by these Ecoboost engines is the main justification by us enthusiasts for “full synthetic” and shorter 5,000 mile changes.

Direct injection and turbocharging have caused the amount of fuel present in motor oil to increase significantly over the last 15 years.

Prior to the proliferation of turbo direct injection, it was becoming feasible to stretch the use of good quality “full synthetic” oil to 10k miles, maybe even 15 or 20k in some cases with port injected, normally aspirated engines. Carmakers began to program their maintenance minders for these extended intervals, and customers became accustomed to it. Auto makers weren’t about to walk that back after they introduced turbo direct injection - after all it could impact sales if buyers perceived a car would need “special maintenance”.

So now we have 3-5% of what’s in our oil pan actually being gasoline. This accelerates oxidation, breaks down viscosity index improvers, and results in an overall less effective lubricant. The longer engine oil is exposed to fuel, the more deleterious the effects. The only real remedies are going a grade higher (or to a euro 30 grade which is kind of like a 0W-35), and changing the oil sooner.

Just how much did ford account for fuel dilution when programming out maintenance minders for 10,000 mile/1 year oil changes? On at least half of my oil change analyses, the oil has been on the 5W-20 viscosity range instead of 5W-30. I would speculate that Ford didn’t account for it much at all, but accepted the decrease in lubricant performance in exchange for better marketing in terms of maintenance requirements, and possible fuel economy benefits from sticking with 0W/5W-30 instead of recommending a 0W/5W-40 in the face of dilution.

One has to wonder if the degraded performance of the oil from this dilution has had any impact on the common cam phaser problems with many of the Ecoboost engines, as the oil serves as a hydraulic fluid in these design mechanisms.

lol.... none of this is black magic. Oil analysis can be ordered by anyone, anytime, anywhere, no matter what type of oil, no matter how long it's been used. Then you can see exactly what's going on, with your engine, and your oil. And then you can react accordingly based on YOUR actual conditions. There are even many threads with folks sharing their real-world results right here on this forum. As the X-Files used to say, the truth is out there. đź‘˝
