I'd been thinking on this for awhile and finally decided to pull the trigger on ordering custom vinyl stripes for my Bronco. I'd looked at all of the options online but wasn't seeing exactly what I had wanted, and I'll be honest, it's pretty crazy how much some precut vinyl can cost.
I searched around on Etsy and found someone offering custom-cut racing stripes. I was able to order a hood stripe and the two rocker stripes for a total cost of $67.
I asked for the following measurements to try matcing the Shelby look as closely as possible. I think it turned out pretty good.
- Rocker Stripes: 2.125" width in the middle section, with a half-inch gap on each side and a half-inch stripe on each side, 72" long
- Hood stripes: Double stripes 9" wide with a 1" gap between the two of them, 36" long
Prep work involved washing the car (without wax) and then spraying the dry area with alcohol before installation.
Installation wasn't too bad, I used the "hinge method" to tape the graphic in the middle and then worked one side at a time and used a squeegee to work out air bubbles. I've seen reports that vinyl like this should last around ten years. We'll see how it holds up, but I'm thrilled by how much of a difference it makes given the low cost.
Here's a quick video report:
