Greeting all, I am looking at putting some 33" tires on my base with 7 speed. I am looking at some wheels available in 16x8 or 17x7 inches and tires sized at 285/75r16 or 285/70r17. The 16" wheels are only available with no offset while the 17" are available with either a +12mm or -12mm, no 0. Does anybody have any advice on what direction to go and the pro or cons? I like the look of big tires and smaller rims and dont have any plans to lift in the near future. Thanks in advance.

Tires will be cooper discoverer at3 xlt

I’d choose the wheel size that gives you the most tire options in the future. Shopping for my 18” OBX wheels was pretty limiting when looking for non E rated tires. My hunch is 17” will give you that flexibility.

If you are going for the look 16s however zero offset w/o SAS fender flares or mud flaps is a lot of poke IMO...debris will be spraying the side of the truck.

The 17s w/ +12mm offset won't be quite as bad

KMC 17x8" with Falken 285/70 (33") +33 offset.
Just to give you an idea of the look.

Some good points about the offset. Looks like, if I did the math right, with the 0 offset the tires will be 2.33" further out and with the +12 it will be 1.85" out.

No, but have only had them for a month and have been on paved roads 90% of the time.

75 series tires are going to mostly be E rated. Those will be better for puncture resistance but they will ride like rocks. So that is a big negative for the 16s. Unless you will be doing a lot off off roaring where puncture protection is a high priority.

The 17“ wheels will give much more options for C rated tires. Also shorter sidewall will improve handling on road compared to the 75 series.

I’m not into tires sticking out so that seals the deal in my opinion for the plus 12mm wheels. I’d search out +33 if it were me. Or +55 stock 17s.

A 33" tire will have more "meat" on a 16" rim than a 17" one.
