Plenty of people sure want it to tow though, and more than 3500. I'm guessing those kind of people will disregard your findings anyway, they need to learn the hard way.
From what I've seen, the main limit to the towing weight has to do with the hitch setup, not the motor. The Braptor is rated at 4500lbs, and according to a TFL video, the main reason is because the cross-bracing for the hitch is far more robust than a standard bronco.

Drove 196 miles today @ 80MPH with an empty 12' utility trailer today. Averaged 10.7 MPG. This is a real world example of what MPG new Bronco's get! I have yet to pull the trailer with my Polaris on it, but I can imagine! Using 93 Octane Unleaded! Also used Active cruise control the whole time!

BTW- It's a heavy duty welded pipe trailer!
If you're an attentive driver, you'll get far better MPG with cruise control turned off, especially in stop-and-go or rush hour traffic.
