Android Auto speed limit sign recognition?

I've searched and not found anything. Since my Android Auto updated a few weeks ago with the added speed limit always on the screen, I've been watching the speed limit icon, and it always changes exactly as I pass a speed limit sign. I assumed this was some sort of AI in connection with Google Street View, but it does not seem to matter where I am, and even in a state park where the speeds change from 25 to 35 very regularly, it changes just as I pass the sign. Today I was going from a 45 mph zone to 55, and a van was right next to me blocking view of the sign. The 45 mph icon did not change to 55 until we passed the next visible 55 mph sign.

Is it possible that Android Auto is using the Broncos camera to identify speed limit signs? My thought would be no, but it seems to work too well to just be part of Google Maps.

More likely is an association with GPS as it seems not to recognize temporary changes like construction zones...

No, it’s all GPS based. Bronco camera doesn’t read speed signs.

Must be nice! The Gmaps speed limit signs around here are wrong more often than not, if they show up at all.

I've noticed that in a few areas I drove through on my last trip that the speed limit did not change to the lower speed limit posted on the sign. I assumed the signs had been changed recently and the displayed limit was Googles last info. Also the vehicles speed is displayed as 1mph faster than my Bronco gauge and this is also true in both my wife's Mazda and Daughters Toyota.

It is a bit of a wonder when the Bronco dash speed limit image changes within 10 yards of a new sign.
Except a few places near me in a National Forest. There, the image never changes from being one wrong limit of 35 mph.

I’d like to see the county database map of speed limits the Bronco GPS uses.

The android auto app is like every other app, it learns and gathers data. With android auto users it wouldn't be much of a stretch to think that it is benefitting from other vehicles that have driven through the area. Look at the traffic congestion/slowing information that you benefit from on the google systems or the android auto systems.

There is a pilot project where Google and Volvo are looking into using the cars cameras to integrate into Google Maps. There was a recent announcement, but outside of that, Android Auto uses some of the cars sensors, but not the camera.

Look at the traffic congestion/slowing information that you benefit from on the google systems or the android auto systems.

This doesn't even need Android Auto. Any Android phone that allowed location sharing with Google is used to crowd source a bunch of Maps related things, like congestion, speed, people taking unexpected detours, and so on.

So the more people have an Android phone and allow the location analytics contribute to the traffic routing in Google Maps.

Google Maps (and Apple Maps) does not use your Bronco’s camera. Google and Apple get speed limit data from multiple sources including state standard speed limits for different zones like residential, school, highway etc.. They also use their own StreetView images and other sources to find images of speed limit signs which are analyzed with AI.

Google uses your individualized data not cameras. How do you think they can dictate traffic localized traffic. If ford or any company uses cameras, then they wouldnt ask you if a hazard or police are still in the spotted area Nancy or Kevin took the time to notify google that it was there. FYI, im the one who says the police or any hazard are no longer present when it pops up on my maps. even tho the police or said hazard is still there.... wild.
