Beware of steering wheel issue. A working replacement part has proven to be almost impossible to get.

So I had some frayed stitching on my steering wheel at 2,000 miles. Which is pretty bizarre for a brand new vehicle. Basically I have 4” open seam along the inner wheel, with the stitching coming out 2”.

For my upcoming oil change I asked the dealer to fix. They wanted to replace the whole steering wheel assembly. Kind of annoyed I had to go back to the dealer again for what seems like an easy fix.

It took 5 weeks for Ford to send them a replacement assembly. I went back to the dealer, waited 2 hours and it ended up being defective!

They sent it back for another one….Then a 4 week wait for another steering wheel…and Ford sent them the steering wheel assembly but without the wiring harness so again a no go! Another trip and another afternoon wasted. So they sent back again.

At this time, I’m not making another trip over something so trivial. I told them not to ask for a replacement part and will contact them a month out from my next oil change so I could kill two birds with one stone. Although the service manager said that he prefers to have his upholstery specialist come in and fix. He said he’s worried that the third steering wheel may also be problematic and actually lacked faith on ford. I don’t know if he thought Ford was shipping out bad steering wheels laying around while they focused on production…or if he was nervous that somehow for one reason or another they would strike out again and be 0-3, as that would be a very bad look for Ford/dealer/experience.

All pretty frustrating and fairly incompetent on Ford (not the dealer).

Either I have bad luck, or just beware -because if I had a real problem with the steering wheel where the bronco was undriveable I would be going on 3 months or more for a working replacement part.

It sucks for sure. I'd just have the dealer's expert fix it w/ a promise if it doesn't last they'll stand behind it.

Good luck.

I'm glad I'm not alone.

I thought nothing of the frayed stitching as it was somewhat normal, I thought. But I did notice it one day in a bizarre area of the steering wheel, knowing I didn't do anything to cause it.

I didn't think to bring it up with my dealer since it was small, I didn't think they'd do anything about it. But after hearing your story, I will mention it.
