Any beta on when it will open? I see Imogene is open and the snow year melted out extremely fast, so kinda surprised this is not open.

I don’t think it opened last year at all. We’ll be pulling into Silverton tomorrow. I’ll ask around about Black Bear.

I think Imogene was only open for about 3 weeks last year and don’t remember about black bear. They are both on the list for next year.

We were there last year and did Black Bear. It was opened but wasn't supposed to be so it was closed and locked up quick. It was open about 3 days. We found out late afternoon on the last day we were there so we stayed an extra day to do it.

I live locally, not far from the pass. We had a very wet June, which is good for hay and wildlife, but will slow down the opening. Every year we have a few nimrods who decide they can go around the barriers, and end up having to be rescued. That further slows the opening and leads to discussions about a permanent closure.

Black Bear is open! We broke on Imogene so won’t be going

Looking forward to doing it in August. We have been watching for the opening as we couldn't do it last year, and it just opened this week.

Heading down there in a couple of weeks. Last time we went (5yrs ago), the wife drove her somewhat stock Jeep GC Trailhawk down it and did very well. She doesn't know it yet, but she'll be taking her Bronco down it here soon and then we'll run Imogene back over to the Ouray side. Been tough finding time to hit up the San Juans these last few years.

@dgorsett We got it fixed good enough yesterday to do Engineer pass today! We’re eating at Lake City right now.
