How bad are the bugs up there? We’ve been thinking of doing something similar.

Depends on when you go really - I went 5 days backpacking in June and I have literally never dealt with as bad of bugs in my life. Arguably completely unbearable, honestly if you aren’t prepared. It tails off a bit at the end of July and is consistent through August. I came back with a fair amount of bites on this trip, but I wore shorts and was pretty relaxed on bug spray.

October is perfect - the colors are all starting to change and the bugs are sparse! Literally my favorite place in the Midwest. Expect the nights to get a bit chillier though, dropping down potentially into the 40s.

Looks awesome!! Definitely want to hit the 7 mile plane crash trail - it was the first trail I found when I was doing some recon on where to go!
