I'm curious if we can start a place to catalog what people are breaking and what they were doing when it popped. I know there is a long thread regarding the (clearly defective) broken CV in that parking lot, but I want to see what sort of off road activities people are doing when a CV shaft pops, or a tie rod bends or even what it tests the limits of the lower control arms.

The videos I've seen from even the most aggressively modified Broncos are doing, what I would consider, fairly light wheeling on 37's and things seem to hold up to it, but Moab isn't exactly a parts durability testing environment with the unlimited traction the rocks provide.

I've watched plenty of stock Rubicons blow up fronts ends in some fairly simple situations and I'm curious if CV axles will take more beating. I'm no stranger of broken parts myself, I'm just looking for some baseline info to know if one could expect to drive a Bronco 750+ miles to a destination event, wheel, and then expect to make it home without issue. It is a new vehicle after all...

I'll put some carnage in here because people love carnage.

D44's hate me, even on ancient 32" tires and a worn out 5.0

Six years 450HP, 5Klbs and 43" tires finally killed a D60 RCV joint. I beat on my Bronco so hard people watching yell at me, I just smile and give them more rev limiter :D

Anyone break anything yet?

I can relate to that D60 RCV pic, I broke one in exactly the same way (the part, not what we were doing). 300m RCV shaft in my rear steer D60 axle, 185 HP. Haven't broken anything on the Bronco yet, don't have it! We'll see how I do at the Bronco Off Roadeo in a couple weeks. 😁

BTW, I was told that the Bronco front CV shafts are the same as the Raptor. Wonder how often Raptor folks are breaking front shafts.

Interesting, any way to verify that? I guess I could look for part numbers...

I have a feeling the parts aren't the weak part of the equation.

I've been trying to find info and specs on the front shafts since I got interested and ordered the Bronco, with no luck. I don't think the part number search will work since the shafts should be different length. Ryan from 4WP is who told me, and I'm pretty confident in his info, but would still like to confirm and get more info. Also, still don't know any difference between M190 shafts and M210 shafts. One of the issues with people wanting to put big tires on non-squatch or non-BL Broncos is the strength of the aluminum housing M190 diff. Guess we'll find out.

Yeah, only time will tell. I imagine shock loading the diff will be where issues can come from. I wouldn't imagine the shafts are and different going into the diff though, it would be costly to have different axles for the different builds. I did see that 50% of Broncos are a Sasquatch though, so there is that. I also can see them going with a proven CV shaft and grabbing parts from the Raptor parts bin.

From the parts description for a complete M210 diff, part #M-3002-470BF:

Upgrade your Bronco gearing with a complete M210 front drive unit
  • Production M210 front drive unit 4.70 ratio w/electronic locking differential
  • If upgrading from M190 FDU, M210 half shafts and M210 front driveshaft required
I'll bet if nothing else, the lengths are slightly different.

Yeah, we've seen the steer rack go, but I'm wondering what other weak links may be found and their solutions have me most interested.
