Filing a patent does not mean they are actively pursuing the technology in a product.

Companies file patents all the time because they can generate revenue if anyone makes a product that they can claim infringes on it. Ford actively encourages employees to bring them any ideas they can patent .

Ford also has a patent on cars that drive themselves to the bank if you default on your loan, and a restraint system for passengers standing on the seats. While the data patent should concern you (because it's more plausible than the other two), a patent doesn't mean they're actively pursuing it.

There is no privacy anymore. Cell phones, GPS in vehicles/cellular, Flock cameras, and I could list 50 other things. Privacy has been out the window for the past 20 years minimum

This right here. My company has HUNDREDS of patents related to the foundry industry, and the vast majority of them are never used. I suspect this is the same kind of thing - yeah, we developed an idea for something, doesn't mean we're gonna use it, but if someone comes out with something similar we can claim they stole our idea!
