Cabin air source?

So I was changing my cabin air filter today and I found some rodent had been in there. Nibbled the pleats and left pine nuts behind. No evidence inside the engine bay of any activity. Check the engine air filter and nothing there. How did the little sucker get in there? I’d like to check the access.

Probably engine compartment and through the cowl somehow.
Likely came in the fresh air inlet door.

From my understanding (and experience), once they find their way in there, it will be an ongoing issue. I was told they leave a scent trail, others will follow.
