Ya, I really don't get it when you can get a complete set of take-offs for less than $1000 all day long and as cheap as $500... and that's rims, tires, and TPMS sensors! At $100 to $200 per corner, why bother with some jacked non-matching rims/tires.

Only if you actually wear out the tread on tires. Getting 20% more tread life is meaningless if you have to replace your tires because they are cracking and rotting from sun damage.

I just sold my old Expedition when I got my bronco. Tread was easily above 50%, but the tires were 6 years old and probably dangerous to use on the highway.

The 10-year old spare mounted under the truck was probably in better shape than the 4 drive tires.
Most of us don't live in Satan's backyard though. I've never had tires age out.

Yes...everybody frowns on tire covers because it shows that the owner that spent 10's of thousands of dollars on that new Ford Bronco can't afford a $250 spare tire.

Might want to wait until Ford comes out with the Bronco trailer.
Like its a thing to show off a spare tire?
Why would anyone think : Hm, under that cover is probably a less expensive tire than the others!
as opposed to : Hm, that guy is smart to cover his spare so it doesnt get sun damaged

I’m probably not saying anything novel here, but consider this a “+1” for the rational side of this conversation…

Unless you just can’t afford the up-front cost of $250ish for a fifth tire, there is no rationale for skipping it. With a set of five, 20% more cost upfront = 20% more life out of the full set of tires.

Also, all this talk about cost/effort to rotate is moot. I mean, at this point, are there any tire places that still don’t offer free rotations for the life of the tires?

I have the same size tires you’re talking about getting. Doesn’t this look better than a smaller/different-tread spare with a cover…?

Um... Not really
I mean same size is absolutely great yes - but uncovered, these gig tieres tent to look like a big hunk of rubber - unless you are in the mountians its sorta alot of information to stare at at a stop light

Strange thread
Amen. I’ve never seen something so simple get so overcomplicated. And that’s really saying something on this forum, where so many have nothing to do but churn while they wait for their truck.

Just like my favorite pair of shoes (one is a cowboy boot and the other one is an adidas slide). I find that if I leave the slide in my closet, nobody knows the pair is mismatched.
