First day of 3k mile road trip to Utah, Colorado and Idaho. My check engine light came on. I stopped and had an OBDII reading.
Water, oil and transmission temps are normal.
Can this wait until I get home in 4 weeks

hope this helps - AI.

Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0078 on your Ford Bronco means "Exhaust Valve Control Solenoid Circuit (Bank 1)." This indicates the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has found an electrical circuit or voltage problem with the variable valve timing (VVT) solenoid that controls the exhaust valves on the side of the engine designated as Bank 1.

Common Symptoms
    • Check engine light is on
    • Rough idle or engine shaking
    • Poor acceleration or hesitation
    • Lower gas mileage
    • Engine stalling in some cases

Main Causes
    • Faulty or stuck exhaust VVT solenoid
    • Damaged, loose, or corroded wiring and connectors
    • Low engine oil level or dirty/sludgy oil blocking proper VVT function
    • Faulty PCM/computer output signal

That makes for a few options. No rough idle or acceleration problems. I wonder if my extended warranty will cover this. Did 500 miles today at 80mph. Ran great

Wrong code. It’s P007B

The report said no parts were needed. Is this something a Ford dealer could repair in a day

If the intake is not blocked I am betting on a dirty sensor.

That report is just generic information. The fix depends on the diagnosis.

I’m not sure if the ECU adapts quickly to significant altitude differences especially over a short period time.

It adapts faster than the Broncos can change altitude or the temperature can change or both.
