So consider me a clueless audiophile when answering this question. I want to upgrade the bass in my 25’ lux badlands and I don’t want to get rid of the tailgate table I have installed. I know they have the stealth box and gearshade enclosures for the factory look, but if I wanted a dual 10” down firing box installed, without sacrificing my cargo area (I’m having a packhorse tray built), would there be insane rattle if mounted to a cargo tray above the cargo area? Could i line it with Kill Mat? I love bass, but haven’t a clue when it comes to how I get it 😂. I’m also open to 2 individual enclosures under the front seats. I’ve heard seat jackers can make this work. Any input appreciated. Feel free to bust my balls as well 🙄🤪

Yes, it will rattle, and you might lose some bass output if the mounting surface isn't coupled to the truck. It will be hard to chase the rattles; much of it will come from the slides and the free-floating tray for the slide-out.

You have a couple of options:
1.) Look at the Foxbox - https://www.foxacoustics.com/collections/bronco
2.) Have custom boxes that mount on the C-pillars
3.) Have a custom box built for the passenger footwell. (Single 8 or 10)
4.) Raise your packhorse and lose the storage cubbies under it; have a custom box built.

Is there a reason you wouldn’t want to go with the gear shade option ? He makes his boxes with the option for those with the Lux package to maintain a place to mount the B&O amp. You won’t lose any cargo space and the bass is phenomenal difference over the factory sub. I have the square setup Kicker L7T (his first design) with the Kicker Key 500 amp and the bass knob mounted underneath my steering wheel on the trim. Dialing in perfect bass is so easy with the bass knob and you can add or remove bass depending on what you’re listening to. He has since engineered a new 10 inch round option also for the B&O system. I went gearshade option so i didn’t lose any space and also pulled out the factory sub as its complete garbage. Something to consider. Assuming no matter what option you’re considering, you’d be removing your factory sub ?

I have gearshade 10” and I have a downfiring 10” on a slide out broaddict. Love it but YMMV. I like my tailgate table and I like to have the option of just unplugging the downfiring enclosure and removing it. Hell, I put stuff on top of the downfiring box and no issues. I don’t like the look of the tailgate enclosure. I know it is a good option, just not my thing.

Do you get a lot of rattle from the down firing? Which box and sub?

Downfire is a more boomy bass vs upfire or side fire kinda like poerted vs sealed.

Tried all with Hertz MPBX300S2 and went with tailgate mount and didnt lose any floor space.

Would you consider a rear facing sub? Lot if options going that route. I've been doing car audio for 20+ years and rear facing subs will give you the best sound in an SUV or hatchback. The sound waves reflect off the rear and come back to the front of the vehicle. Its just a trade-off between space and sound quality.

I ended up getting a hold of Gearshade and I’m having a box made to go in place of the factory sub. I went with the JL 10tw3 and a kicker key 500.1 I also bought rear pods and I’m putting 6.5 alpine type S in there. I’ll see how it sounds and go from there! I just hope the 1 sub is enough!!!!

1 10" W3 should work well. You won't wake the neighbors, but it will be night and day from stock.

Thank you for posting; I love the gear shade boxes. I don't have anything there, so that would be perfect. Now just need to decide 10 or 12".

I have a perfect condition Kicker 12" down-firing sub if anyone wants it. I think pickup would be much more economical. I'm in the Bay Area.

I am replacing the speakers myself. Will see how well I do with the amps, but it shouldn't be rocket science.

You'll like that setup. Mine is similar. I have JL Audio speakers in the front and put Kckers in the back, I had lying around. They were supposed to be installed in the truck that went to Heaven. The big pods make a difference. I just forgot to add another screw in the side so they rattle but I'll fix that soon.

I got a little carried away and scratched my original pod order….. I ended up ordering a musway eight100 amp and kicker KS speakers all around. I kept the enclosure and JL sub. 🤷🏼‍♂️ talking to Joe from plugnplay can be a dangerous thing 😂😂

@irishmurph01 - I cant imagine you will need anything more than the 1 sub . I will be interested to hear your opinion of the new 10 inch box. Alawys loved the JL's back in the younger years. I went with the Square 8 Kicker L7T. I was skeptical going into this journey. Even though it’s an 8‑inch, the L7T hits harder than most round 10s because of its square cone and high excursion. In a Bronco 2‑door cabin like mine, its plenty. Please let us all know your results ! (y)(y)

I wish I would have gone with the 10 Kicker L7T. Definitely a good choice. Get what you pay for.
