DV8 rear storage box.
Has 50% more storage than stock (I believe they advertise 54%), and with storage at a premium in the 2D I gave it a shot.
The installation consists of two pieces, a metal lip that goes around the opening and the box that bolts up underneath.
Note: This is the "normal" storage box and not the "compressor" storage box which has a divider in the middle (and retails for $75 more for some reason).
The instructions tell you to unbolt and move the muffler out of the way so you can access and remove the heat shield - but that proved to be a bit of a bitch, the 15mm muffler clamp nut was NOT going to move, so I kinda jenga’d my hands around the muffler and was able to get the bolts out of the heat shield and remove it that way.
Once the heat shield was out, I used a bit of “percussive maintenance” to get the box to seat into the hole from above. Instructions tell you to raise and bolt up the box from underneath, but you can totally get it in just dropping it in from above with a few encouraging palm whacks. Several profanities help as well.
Box itself is solid welded metal as opposed to the flimsy plastic of the stock box, and they provide a thick heat shield for you to apply to the underneath and sides.
All in all, it’s roomy and solid and fits my tool roll well plus has some nice extra room as advertisied, but I’m worried that the foam behind their heat shield will melt from the muffler without that aluminum stock heat shield in place, but then again since it’s thicker metal as opposed to plastic, maybe it doesn’t need the same level of external shielding?
Time will tell.
**note: I have a stock SAS Badlands muffler - so not sure about fitment with aftermarket exhausts - if they sit higher or farther forward than stock then you might run into some problems**
