New Ford Bronco: $60,000.
Memories for life: Priceless!
…and this is just the beginning. Great post and pictures!

Our first Ford was the “clubhouse” for many adventures my son and I went on. So of course he was my wingman checking the first new Bronco near us, and approval was unanimous.

Enjoy your new Wildtrack, and every new adventure.

Awesome trip with the young lad (love the pics). Kinda went out of your way to double back from Philly to Pete and Eldas but certainly understand why (grew up in that area and love P&Es). Enjoy the new ride.

It was all about the challenge! He's actually wearing his shirt to school today, despite the fact that it's three times too big! I'd love to have taken him to Wall Stadium for some Saturday night short track racing, but we didn't have the schedule for it. I actually went to elementary school with the P&E's owners son, who did some racing at Wall Stadium (you can see the Wall Modifieds in the glass etching).

What a great trip with your son! Congrats on the Bronco.

Is that a competition orange mustang? If so there is a large facebook group dedicated to CO mustang's that I could link you up with.

I had a 2015 GT in Competition orange but sold it to the dealer after they destroyed while it was waiting for service.

She's Race Red, just like the Bronco. It's a tough color to photograph, because the light always makes it look orange.

I did something like that with my son twice. Once to buy a modified M3 in Ohio and when we bought his lifted 4Runner in the DC area (his first vehicle). Both trips were a lot of fun and created some great memories.

Congrats
Am getting Race Red too - bright and a classic color

Have a question - how did you handle registration - did dealership take care of it? or did you?

Thanks

It'll depend on your state, but for South Carolina, I needed to pay sales tax on the vehicle, then I'll need to go to my county tax assessor and get a tax bill, pay that, then I can go to DMV to register. That's a chore for next week.

Sales tax here as well - MA

Did you drive with temp plates the dealership gave or did you have old ones with active reg for the drive back?

Temp tags from the dealership. I'm keeping my Mustang, so I'll have to get new plates. Hopefully my vanity plates won't take forever.

Long post warning!

My Wildtrak arrived last week at Chapman Ford of Northeast Philly, so my son and I flew from Charleston to Newark, then hitched a ride with family to the dealership. Overall, the experience was great, other than the fact that they "lost" my Bestop, and had to "find" it in the parts area. No clue if that was intentionally overlooked, but I'm naturally skeptical of dealerships. We drove 1040 miles in the first three days of ownership, killed immeasurable amounts of bugs, ate a LOT, and had a great bonding experience. I figured I'd share these pictures, if anyone was interested...

PXL_20221014_095608737.jpg

Early start at the Charleston airport, 0615 on Friday morning. He wanted Dunkin'.

PXL_20221014_142430484.jpg

There she is, prepped and ready to go (without the Bestop in the trunk). I told them I didn't want a dealer sticker, but they didn't listen.

PXL_20221014_183530780.jpg

My grandparents both just passed, so I wanted to visit my hometown and see their house one last time.

PXL_20221014_155950251.jpg

Along the way, we stopped to take the front roof panels off, but having not done my research beforehand, I didn't want to try to stow them and screw anything up, so they went back on. He approves of the top being off, though!

PXL_20221014_172323588.jpg

After my grandparents house, we hit up Pete and Elda's, where eating a XXL pizza by yourself gets you a t-shirt. I've done this a few times in my life, but this was the kid's first attempt. He was cocky, going in.

PXL_20221014_172420844.jpg

PXL_20221014_173715914.jpg

Five slices down, and he was hurting.

PXL_20221014_180406545.jpg

He finished, though!

PXL_20221015_022807691.jpg

After pizza, we hopped on the road and made it to our first hotel, in Woodstock, VA. This is not Christine, but it's pretty cool.

PXL_20221015_115135037.jpg

Early start with some Youtube before getting shitty coffee at the hotel.

PXL_20221015_135855961.jpg

Next up was Luray Caverns. I had been once before, probably when I was about his age, but he's never done anything like this.

PXL_20221015_005645280.jpg

My step-dad wouldn't let me leave without a Bruno's sub. Think Jersey Mike's, but actually good, and filling.

PXL_20221015_151311294.jpg

There's a vintage car museum at Luray Caverns that's included with your admission. Nothing is newer than ~WWII.

PXL_20221015_151343175.jpg

PXL_20221015_151452180.jpg

This Lincoln is 1 of 1, custom build for Edsel Ford, with an intercom system from the rear passenger compartment.

PXL_20221015_142433581.jpg

After the car museum, it was over to the historical village at Luray. He wouldn't survive 1800s life without his tablet.

PXL_20221015_161436887.jpg

Next up was Skyline Drive, in Shenandoah National Park. We caught the leaves at the perfect time!

PXL_20221015_161630931.jpg

My son pointed out that I hadn't taken a photo in front of the car yet, so...

PXL_20221015_162710344.jpg

He thinks he looks super cool!

PXL_20221015_183224672.jpg

We found a bunch of these little ringneck snakes at one of the scenic overlooks. Coincidentally, we also ended up talking to a couple who owned a 4D Wrangler (him). She wants to replace her current Honda SUV with a Bronco!

PXL_20221015_191402640.jpg

500 miles on day 2, while we were on Skyline Drive. BTW, driving almost 100 miles at 35 MPG takes FOR-EVER!

PXL_20221015_204904072.jpg

Next up was a stop at Natural Bridge, VA. Another place I had been to around his age, but haven't been to in a LONG time.

PXL_20221015_204439859.jpg

There's a cool beehive with exposed window panes when you're walking down through the visitor's center.

PXL_20221015_205222137.jpg

There's a bridge!

PXL_20221015_212031093.jpg

And a waterfall!

PXL_20221016_003723715.jpg

Dinner was in Salem, VA. This "roadside attraction" was next to our gas stop on Route 220. No comment.

PXL_20221016_125136695.jpg

Saturday night was spent in Winston-Salem. I thought Waffle House was a good option for breakfast on Sunday morning.

PXL_20221016_130305284.jpg

His first Waffle House experience! This was also his first real meal since pizza on Friday!

PXL_20221016_160137200.jpg

We just got a Buc-ee's in Florence, SC, so we hit them on the way back. It's an absolute shit show. Like, if you have anxiety, don't even try.

PXL_20221016_160516951.jpg

Immediately after this, a dog got loose, and we had to chase it throughout the parking lot.

PXL_20221016_172844643.jpg

Found a spot on Route 41 to take a picture of her. I was utterly exhausted, at this point.

PXL_20221016_192932413.jpg

Home, and hanging out with her sister. When I backed the Mustang into this position, she tried to stall out on me, like she could smell another horsie on me that would take up my time.

PXL_20221017_195707233.jpg

He and I got to work installing mods. Bartact grab handles, Gorilla lug nuts with locks, Rekgen mud flaps, Mabett floor mats and cargo protector, and a KYKR screen protector.

PXL_20221017_195714407.jpg

The Wildtrak badging is going to go away on the fenders, and she'll get black Bronco script badges. The BRONCO logo on the grill is also going to get blacked out. Installing the hoist this weekend, and pulling the hard top to install the Bestop for the winter.

JR
Awesome write up, congrats on the Bronco and an awesome road trip. I'm sure I'll notice the cool race red out on the roads down here, so make sure to wave at the eruption green sasquatch!

Go Tigers!
