So is the general concensus that we should not be following ford performance directions and updating before first connecting to the truck ?

What is the risk of leaving the Procal tune on when taking it in to the dealer for service?

Well just tuned my 23 2.7l and I guess I was lucky with no issues so far. I was told by ford performance rep that there really is not much likelihood they would make any changes with updates to the tuner. He sounded like he deals with these pretty often and mentioned that as far as updates too they would not be making changes to the tune itself since that would require going through carb testing again.

My experience with the Procal so far.
I have a 22 OBX non-sas with Lux package bought in California.
Purchased ProCal and then installed Performace Cal NB3A-FPB27A-AHE on 6/2/23
I was able to do this prior to the Performance CaL being CARB approved.
Been very happy with the better performance.
I have taken the Bronco to the dealer for NO OTA updates leaving the Performance Cal installed (even mentioned the Performance Cal install to the service writer.) The dealer updated modules and reseated the 210 connector by the glove box on the Bronco without issues.
Have since installed larger tires and wanting to change the tire size using ProCal but I decided to update the ProCal first.
Yesterday started Procal software on my laptop and it walked me through the update process for the software and the ProCal. When I was asked to login in I got an error "calibration not found (err 1)" Retried and got the same message. I quit for the day.
Today I was going to contact Ford about this error but decided to try and see if I got this error again. I did not get the error today. Basically, I got a message about the Performance Pack NOT being CARB Approved and it asked if I wanted to proceed anyway. I said yes please proceed. It then asked if I have upgraded my Front Drive Unit which I have not, now at least I know what to do if I ever upgrade my FDU. My Procal Software still shows my stock configuration, a NEWER Performance Cal NB3A-FPB27A-AHG and the same DLCM Upgrade. I have not connected the ProCal to my Bronco yet.

So here is where I sit today.
I want to change the tire size using ProCal.
Should I upgrade the Performance Cal on the Bronco from NB3A-FPB27A-AHE to NB3A-FPB27A-AHG? And to do so, do i go back to the stock configuration first or just overwrite NB3A-FPB27A-AHE with NB3A-FPB27A-AHG.
Am I going to have an issue with my stock configuration like discussed here https://www.bronco6g.com/forum/threads/ford-performance-procal-issue-help-needed.88486/#post-2154352
Hmmmmm

I’ve had problems every time I updated my ProCal. 3 times the tech/engineer had to remote to my hard top to put back my stock configuration, the last one a few months ago. The updates are only useful if you plan to use them. I just reverted back to stock yesterday in anticipation to going to the dealer for service. I was able to put back my FP tune after.
So my $0.02, don’t update the ProCal prior to changing tire size.

Finally checking back in, as my issues has been fixed and I might have a few tips that may help someone else. Thankfully, as hoped, the cal engineer was able to restore my correct base and FPT files. As it happened, then morning of my appointment with him, he also pushed a ProCal Update to fix the problem (prevent it from happening to more people) and I updated my SW before talking to him. This made my messed up base file have the correct name, but the file was not correct. The engineer replaced both files on my ProCal and it appears to be fine now. If this happens to you, I would suggest the following, based on my experience and other posts that I have read:
1) email Ford Performance - let them get the request to the correct person, versus having someone that may not know as much about this issue answer your call.
2) I was advised not to go crazy with updating, unless there are features that I hear about and absolutely want...I just wish Ford would provide better and complete release notes so I would know if I truly wanted to risk it or not.
3) This was a hint from another forum, but it may be a good idea to revert you vehicle back to stock before attempting tool updates. In the event that something like this happens again (and they can't recover it), you are sure to have your base file to reload on the tool.

Do you remember the FP engineer who was able to help you out? I have had less than satisfactory assistance with mine; same issue, 2.3L. Last email I got was literally sending them the stock calibration file that is the "performance tune" and unable to read ECM error trying to go back to stock. Little more help here, (read as- give a shit) guys (at FP). Close to a year-on this isn't resolved, and it obviously happens, so where is the, "oh that problem? Download this file onto your PC..." solution; of any kind?

Has anyone been able to contact Ford Performance support for their ProCal issues recently?

I had the firmware update/tune delete happen to me and I’ve been trying to get my files restored since Nov ‘25. After weeks of back and forth calls and emails in which I was told to unplug/plug the device into my computer, providing multiple screenshots, they just stopped responding to my emails.

I worked with a guy named Ken Kot who was friendly but couldn’t ever resolve my issue. When I tried calling recently, the number connects me to various Ford departments, including an unrelated dealer parts counter one time, and the guy who answered was bewildered to say the least. One of the people I spoke to at the wrong dept said that FP had their number transferred to them temporarily.

This is getting ridiculous and would just like my files restored. Pretty crappy customer service and I regret buying the tune with this type of support.

I've been communicating over the last couple years with David Garn, but the determination basically ended with, I'm SOL, I can't return mine back to stock, so I'm just... stuck with it.
For clarity, I was a victim of the Windows program updating and showing I instead had a token available after having already gone through from brand new to tuning. The ProCal gave/gives me the error "ECU read not valid". So from the Ford Performance standpoint, I'm jus effed and out the $450 or whatever it was when it first came out.
Mine's a 2.3L but this issue doesn't seem to be specific to any powertain.
I've even gone the route of reflashing my PCM via FDRS and no change, so I have a stock tune, that the Procal says is tuned, and Ford Performance doesn't seem to care, so they get my two middle fingers of approval. Suck it up buttercup

@LethalPerformance - your posts helped convince me to buy a ProCal, for my first Bronco, a few years ago. Any advice from a vendor’s perspective on getting these issues resolved? Maybe you could pass on to FP that this is bullshit and nobody is going buy their products with the lack of support? It seems my nice email in which I cc’d [email protected] (total guess) 😂 wasn’t received.
