Is the terrible squeeking and rattling of the back hatch or tailgate normal? Sounds like a 50 year old vehicle.

I found my rattles were from the black grill on drvsd tailgate to be my culprit. I pulled it off and put some felt tape along the whole inside edge and it solved it for me. I’ve also noticed change in temps from summer to winter cause other rattles or make them go away. I’m assuming that’s due to some contraction of some plastic.

It is likely the glass. You can either put a piece of tape along the inside of the top of the tailgate where the rubber on the glass hits, or apply some silicone grease to the rubber seal. I used Shin-Etsu and it's silent now.
