I should have taken better pics of the
Relying on those clips that fit in the roof rack slots to maintain the top bothers me. These tops cost to much to have them hanging that way. But hey, that’s me.
I didn't do a good job of posting how it's supported. Here are 3 pics. The lock pin secures the placement, once secured there really is no way for it to come off. There are two pin holes to choose from. I chose the one that puts the bracket in the farthest. I've attempted to pull the bracket back to see if it will pop out, couldn't do it. Seems pretty secure to me.

I like the your use of those Force/Stress Distributor Plates (plywood). I use similar designs all the time!

Instructions called to use the wood screws they supplied too. Which honestly would have been fine. The top isn't that heavy, even with the additional weight of T tops. But I put up a 2x6 and used lag bolts, then the 3/4 plywood, then the screws to the 2x6,with a few extra. Just wanted to make sure haha.

I'm curious about the minimum garage ceiling height. Mine is only 9'. Is that a limitation?

My garage ceiling is only 8 ft high and with my cheapo pulley setup I can get my roof up 4 inches. It's not much but it's enough that I can drive out from beneath it. Carefully!

I already have a hoist. Anyone know if you can just buy the bracket (or maybe someone else sells just a bracket?)
disclaimer: I haven’t used this, I still use straps and hooks

My roof is 10'. The top silver bolt in this pic is 9'. You'll make it, but will have to either pull in front first and have plenty of room. Or carefully back up and parking under the top like you are putting it back on.

Or maybe even the garage is long enough and you can park before the top. Obviously I have a two door, but that side of my garage is 1' deeper than the other. I can actually park in the garage and close the door. And still be able to lower the top behind the Bronco as long as I'm inches from the garage door.

My cellar level garage ceilings too low for a hoist so I built one on side of garage but the ground isn’t that level so was a PITA getting it on without banging the roll bars and breaking alignment pins. I ended Up just going with the Toplift and I can get the top off and away in garage in 10 min. It’s easier than messing with hooks and straps.

Either way, i really recommend roll bar and ledge protection. I got from Stickerfab.

After 3 years of using 4 hooks in the roof at the corners, and 4 ratchet straps, decided to get an actual hoist. Should have taken some pics of building it, but it is pretty straight forward. Watched the video from them on it, with a 4 door model. Looks like they have updated a few things, instead of a wire to lift it, now its a nylon strap which is much easier to setup. It can now be lifted up high enough to pull all the way under and make more room in the garage, and no more hitting my head on it when walking in the garage.

Overall pretty happy with it, paid $550 on Amazon for it. Should have done it earlier. Only bad thing about the roof being off me parking in the garage, is all my toys are taking up the room, and my wife has to park hers outside which I never hear the end of
I was living vicariously through you thinking that looked like a single guy’s garage until I read that last sentence! 🤣
