I decided to test how much weight I can put in the back of my Bronco Raptor before it starts to sag in the rear. Here is all the data before I get into the results.
What are the Options?
One of first mods a lot of Raptor owners get is a lift, for a lot of reasons. Whether its to give the OEM tires a little more room before they rub, or fit 40's. There are really 3 lifts you can get for the Bronco Raptor:
Whats the Problem?
I decided on Hyperco because of the reviews they had, and have truly enjoyed them, but they come with one catch:
Initially I had the 2" front and 2" rear HD lift, keeping my factory rake. But with only 150lbs of gear in the back, I was nose diving off of whoops and jumps. Hyperco recommended the 2" front 1" rear, so I swapped. Now the 150lbs springs are causing sag. I brought it up to them and they mentioned I was in a sort of "grey area". Either lose weight in the back or get the HD springs and add more weight.
Whats the Solution?
If you want a lift, consider how much gear you'll have with you from driving to the kids soccer practice to Baja. If you just plan on packing a big lunch, then the hypero 2"/1" is for you. Anymore than a big dog in the back and kids in their carseat, you'll want to reconsider. If you are like me and want a lift via springs, I would recommend getting the Geiser springs, who claim 400+lbs before rear sag on their leveling kit, or the Eibach 1"/1" lift to maintain the factory rake.

No, I didn't use a laser level. I used a marker and some wood, we're cutting with a butter knife here and not a scalpel. But it gets the point across. The video below is the measuring I did. The graphics are the results. Every 50lbs moves the back end down about .20"

- Perch Collars: These are among the cheapest ways to lift the vehicle, and has the most variety of the options. You can level the bronco, or keep it with the factory 1" forward rake. This is generally seen as less or a performance upgrade, and more of an aesthetic upgrade, but can certainly serve a purpose offroad as well.
- Tophats: This option only exists in the front to level the bronco, while generally keeping the same factory performance.
- Springs: Springs allow for a slight performance upgrade, depending on the springs, but comes with its own challenges that I am about to mention below. The options are either to level the Bronco, or to keep the factory rake with much stiffer springs, designed to load with weight and ultimately level the Bronco. Eibach is the only company that offers a true 1" front and rear lift maintaining the factory rake.
