thats going to depend on the shop, not the chain. I literally just replaced my mustangs windshield yesterday. Safelight place here: tech took the car in, 10 minutes later came out and said insurance is only paying for aftermarket glass and he noticed my car wasn't a normal mustang (1 of 1 California Special with every option). Asked if I wanted OEM. I paid the difference, they installed and its just like factory. No glass anywhere and perfectly straight.
No one should really have an issue with windshield glass inside their car when having it replaced. Windshields are laminated and the glass is designed to stay together as one piece. It comes out from the front, not the inside. Tempered non laminated side and rear glass is a different beast.

I got a crack in mine headed to church about 2 months ago... Started on passenger side and is half way... Safelite had already replaced the original with OEM, and I'll go there again. Basically $1k. Nice people at my local shop.

I too have joined the Windshield Of The Month Club. Exactly one month after picking up my badsquach I got a tiny tiny rock strike at the base of my windshield. Parked it in the sun and in no time I had a branching crack from bottom to top. Used a local shop recommended by my dealer who said without my asking, "Don't use Safelight".

We were so paranoid after reading the forum we reduced our comprehensive deductible shortly after delivery and within a month had a crack. It has been a year without an additional crack so being proactive must've given us good juju.

About a week shy of its 3 year birthday. I was on the interstate coming home from picking up the Bronco after getting the 4th replacement MIC top. A semi in right lane moved over in front of the car in front of me and as soon as his trailer tires crossed the center line a rock went right past the passenger window of the car and hit the top of the windshield just left of the rearview mirror. I thought to myself, I can fix that with the RainX repair kit I purchased a few weeks ago. Got home, did the cleaning and prep then the repair which actually looked pretty good. Instructions said place one of the curing strips on top of the repair and set outside in direct sunlight. 10 minutes later it had spread into a foot long crack:(
