We're looking for a trail to take our first day trip on. Any recommendations close to the Tyler area, we actually live in Athens, but willing to travel a little bit. At this point, it will be 3 or 4 vehicles, My Bronco, and 2 - F150s.

Would like something a bit more than just dirt roads, unless the point of interest is worth it. And would prefer some sort of loop vs. an out and back.

This is a family trip.

Anyone else is welcome to join if in the area.

Thanks.

You'll probably only have something like cheeseburger loop or trying to find some interesting stuff in either Davy Crockett or Sabine National Forests. There are also a lot of management areas out near Zavalla and Broaddus near the Sam Rayburn reservoir.

Then of course there's also parks like Barnwell Mountain in Gilmer, and Northwest offroad park in Bridgeport. If you want to go a bit further, there's also Hot Springs OHV park and lots of public land around Lake Ouachita. Then again if you get up there, the Kiamichi Trail is also worth a look.

Cheeseburger loop

We were planning to visit Barnwell this Sunday, April 2nd, but they're closed for a private event. So we're pushing it out a few weeks.
