Totally concur. With the exception of COVID pandemic car pricing craziness, in 50+ years of buying and selling new and used cars, I have NEVER had any dealer offer or suggest anything close to KBB "Trade-In" values. Especially if they know the trade is going right to auction. Concur that most common response is, "We don't go off KBB. We have our own pricing guidelines.". In an over saturated market (and high interest rates) you can assume that these trade-in value forces are NOT working in your favor.
As I mentioned, it was always Galves in the NE for auction price, which is what trade always
"used" to be.

I'm starting to see Raptors, like 2023 and 2024 with low miles at the $72K and $75K price point resale. The newness of the model has worn off, the supply is up, and dealers are swamped with inventory they can't sell. And Fords have never been great value resalers.

I'll probably get bashed for this, but I have NEVER bought a vehicle with the intention of trading it back in within a year or two. I see so many posts on Facebook of people trading in a vehicle they just bought to get one of a higher trim for online clout, and it's essentially rolling negative equity into a larger loan. I can't fathom doing that and burning tens of thousands for no reason.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the look of the Raptors, but I do absolutely no off-roading and have no desire to ever do so (to each their own). I get 23mpg in my Bronco and it does exactly what I need it to do without the fancy off-roading options. I couldn't justify trading mine in for something that is objectively worse for the same purposes. For the $30k difference, I could chop up my Bronco and put a V8 in like Ford should have originally. :)

I'm just saying... Getting caught up in pursuit of trim is a very fast way to burn money you don't even have yet. And the increased liability is risk and added cost, especially during this time period of economic crapulence.

Interesting, but why is Blue Book so far off?

Screenshot 2024-11-19 233639.jpg

I think right now we are seeing something that is rare. New car inventory has exploded and its hard to justify 55k -60K for a used Bronco Wildtrack when I can get a new raptor for 76K. Interest rates are high and everyone bough a new car during covid. This is creating a downward pressure on demand. I had a Jeep coming off lease this month so I have been watching various cars as a potential replacement. I have bought a LOT of cars in my life, but I have never seen the kind of price reductions I have seen in the last 6 months. 30% is insane. I don't know that Blue Book moves that fast and its probably behind. That or they are liars (shrug). I had a used 23 Raptor with some serious upgrades in my sights at 73K, but I opted for a new one for 76K. And then dropped 10K into wheels, ceramic coating and stereo upgrade. I do NOT expect to see that money come back in resale. Best bet is probably hold on and wait for the 24 inventory to be absorbed and see if prices come back in line. At least you're riding a cool set of wheels. Being upside down in an Outback would suck balls. Not super helpful, but just my 2.

It's just the way it is nowadays. Instant gratification is much more prevalent today than it was decades ago. I can usually spot the people in vehicle specific forums that will be the first ones to move on and sell. They are typically the new owners that are extremely smitten, over enthusiastic, and claim they will keep this vehicle forever. Once the high of the new vehicle wears off they crave that feeling again of buying a new vehicle and the honeymoon phase. Also for people that have not owned Jeeps before, a Bronco may be a little too compromised or rough around the edges for folks that just run to work, the grocery store, and home and they realize it's a little too hardcore for them.

To be fair, I originally had a '21 month 2 Antimatter Blue Wildtrak that I loved more than I should've. That Bronco was totaled in an accident and so I rushed out and bought a '23 Hot Pepper Red Wildtrak. Yes, it's mostly the same but I'm not happy with the color, so I've waffled back and forth since buying it, but ultimately don't like ANY of the current colors as much, so it was just a loss either way you slice it.

You can wrap a Bronco any color you wish for the same (or less ) than you would lose trading up to a newer model.

You're not the only one, buying a new vehicle, especially a Ford, and then selling for another one a year later, you have got to be willing to take a pounding, especially if you trade it in and forgo private party sale.

Two things, in my haste I already put PPF on it, spent a lot and not willing to undo that, and two, wrap is fine, but it doesn't get the entire body, inside the door jams, engine compartment, and interior of the vehicle.

That's an entirely different situation, but I feel your pain though. My wife and I bought a brand new JKU 9 years ago- first new vehicle I had ever bought. Zero miles. My wife started driving it daily and one day within the first year some idiot kid came flying across the double-yellow at over 100mph, took out 4 vehicles including hers. The kid had state minimum insurance, so the next 6 months were a nightmare. We lost tens of thousands even after putting it on our insurance, and the offending party was legally immune. [insert long angry story about what Allstate put us through and to never use Allstate]

This is true if you bought the original poorly which MANY did with ADM. If you bought well then there is no pounding. We just traded a '23 we had for almost 2 years and 17k miles and bought a '24. Since I bought well and traded well I lost about $1k for 17k miles and 23 months of ownership.

That's very rare, and more power to you if you can manage a deal like that.

My point from earlier is, most do not and cannot find a deal or scenario such as yours. Most people operate with "monthly payment" mentality and pine for top trim just so they can get more likes and shares on social media. It's their money to waste, I'm just offering a caution.

Ya I get it was just pointing out not everybody gets hosed. In my case my original '21 order wasn't going to get built and I had to drop the 7MT - BL trim - lockers to get it built and was disappointed from day one. Now that Broncos are sitting, and they have huge discounts I decided to try to get a good deal and I was able to after 6 weeks.

Yup, in my case, 16 year old kid with a license for less than a week ran a stop sign and I hit them doing about 40. 3 Vehicles involved. Didn't get back anywhere near what it was worth (to me) and they had bare minimum insurance. I'm still, over a year and a half later, getting a monthly notice from their insurance company that they are still awaiting all the damages to be reported before making a final decision on payouts. Even though the insurance rep on their side said with 3 totaled vehicles they wont be able to give any if at all.
