Sounds like few people have made their own M13 bolts from M14 bolts to work with a body lift. Has anyone done that here? Did you turn down the bolts that 1mm prior to running a die over it or could you force an M13 die over the M14 shank since the difference is only 1mm?

I’m surprised Ford uses such odd ball sizing on these bolts. There impossible to source anywhere.

M13 thread information is tough to find. I am in the fastener industry and have never encountered a M13. I just checked my metric threading charts, ISO metric standards, and the IFI, no data.

Ya the only place I can find them is ford body bolts (none of which are long enough) and obscure head bolts for some odd ball European stuff. Although these bolts seem impossible to source a tap and die are relatively easy to find (M13X1.75), not sure how that can be but it is what it is.

Your not going to be able to just “force” a 13mm die over a 14mm bolt. Unless they are the same pitch, even turning them down won’t make it easy.

At least a couple people have done it here, problem is there a little lite on the details of what they actually did. Sounds like they ordered M14 bolts much longer then needed then cut the threaded part off and then ran a die over the remaining shank, which I agree would be tough on a hardened bolt but none mentioned lathe work or turning them down.

I don’t think the die will even start. I haven’t tried it on a M13/14 but I’ve done it on SAE bolts. I’ve always turned them down to the major diameter first. 1mm (.039 in) is a lot IMO and the die wont help in this case.

I did it. The die will start if you dog point the bolts on a grinder. Takes time, but it does work

Awesome! Did you cut the thread off and start with unmolested shank or get M14 1.75 and thread over existing thread?

So the body lift needs a longer M13 bolt than the stock one or is this something specific to that lift? How much longer does it need to be? Interested because I'd like to see if body mount bolts from other Ford vehicles could work.

No. It actually worked better going over the threaded part...its less material to remove (the die will pretty much peel off all the existing threads). I think the bolts i started with were 14×2.0, but 14x1.75 should also work. I did have a few turned on a lathe too, but that really didn't help me at all. Tedious as hell, the die gets pretty hot so give it some cool down breaks, and buy the thread making type, not thread repair type. Do a "rough cut" and a "clean up cut" if that makes sense

Ranger one works. I have part # at work. 190-200 mm is ideal (I think the Ranger one is 193mm? There's a thread on it already, thats how I found them
EDIT: Here it is,

Ya to add 3” via a puck the bolt should be 3” longer. The longest anyones been able to find is 192mm (ranger cab bolts) (2 1/4 in longer). These should work too because others have added 3/4” lift with stock 134mm bolts.

The ranger bolts are expensive though and being in Canada shipping adds even more cost. I’m on the fence on what to do, make my own or order the ranger bolts. I’d hate to order $200 in bolts and they don’t work.

If you already have the die/holder etc, then it's worth making your own. Add the cost of a high quality die in this oddball size and it's probably a wash. Either solution works tho, the factory bolts are quite a bit longer than they need to be. I did 2", but could have gone 3" no problem (both with 200mm homemade, and 192mm or whatever Ranger bolts)

I looked at a lot of different vehicles and most have M12 bolts, odd. Wonder why they went with M13 when even super duty uses the smaller ones and should be considered more of severe use than ranger or bronco.

Dumb question but if you bought the lift pucks instead of DIY, why isn't the company supplying the correct hardware?

Just order the ranger bolts and pull off your old washers save your original bolts if you ever want to lower back to stock.
