Mabbett pods and Focal RCX-165

Can’t speak on that speaker model but I’m running the Focal ACX 165s in Mabett pods just fine. The plastic of the pods is fairly brittle I wouldn’t risk trying to mod it.

Will the cover still fit if you were to put spacer between speaker and pod??

yup, they dont fit flush. i took some really thick 3m double sided tape and used it as a filler between the speaker and the pod. once the grills are on, ya can't tell or see it.

Anyone have recommendations for another set of speakers that fit the Mabbett pods? I would really appreciate it as I purchased the Focal but may just use for kick panel...

I have those exact Focals with the Mabett pods. I used some car audio type foam tape and they now sit flush with the foam. The top piece still fits over the speakers without issue.

I contacted Mabett to let them know they didn’t work and they gave a discount. May be worth trying.

Doing the comparo on the Crutchfield website, the dimensions appeared to be identical.
Not sure what gives.

Did they change the pods at some point?
The Chinese manufacturers are known to do shit like that. You have to watch them like a hawk, constant QA/QC checks, etc etc.

It was hard to tell for sure when I was installing them but I believe it’s the width of magnet and the curve on the pod. It just needs maybe 3-4mm more room.

Focals were a tight fit and sat above the opening line your picture. I just evenly cranked them down and they ended up sitting flush without modification.
