I have a 24 BD Sas. Purchased last February. It seems like i have never had a software update. Considering most of my electronics update frequently, I’m wondering if this is normal? Is there a way to check what software I have and what is current?

Not sure on checking versions, but if you're not receiving updates automatically you probably have that feature turned off.

Go to your Ford Pass app.
Go to Settings, then Software Updates. Verify auto-update is on and a schedule is set.

If you have auto-update off, and don't want to turn it on, I believe you can perform the update from the in-vehicle screen, but I haven't explored that option.

I have a 2024 WildTrak purchased new last January and I too have not received updates and I know I have automatic updates set to on. It's also connected to my home Wi-Fi and the vehicle sits in the garage at home which gets a strong Wi-Fi signal

A member on this site checked FDRS if I had any updates pending and he sent me this screen shot.

When I mentioned that I haven't gotten the updates pending, the following was his response.

Just because an update is pending doesn't mean you can initiate the install. It has to be sent from the server and that happens at random. The dealer can do them with FDRS, but they won't because Ford does not pay them to update modules just because they are out of date. You just have to wait for the OTA to come in.

For what it's worth I got mine last August, auto updates on and I've only gotten two OTA updates, both for the window module (couldn't tell any difference after the updates).

Is anyone else connecting their Bronco to their WiFi? Wondering if that helps with update frequency?

Mine is connected to WiFi and haven’t had an update even though two are apparently out there.

I had a Ford Explorer a few years back and I could actually download the updates to an usb apply them. Is that the case with this version of sync?

Supposedly it does populate sooner, but I have no way to prove that.

I haven't had an update since last December, although last time I checked with FDRS (like this past Spring) - there was nothing pending. And I haven't heard of any software updates triggering really.

Would be nice if they would fix Sync, but I think they are just gonna concentrate on the new Android sync and just pretend Sync 4 doesn't exist any longer. I mean... buy a new car if you want updates, isn't that how we used to do it?

I have done this with my Mustang, but it's a 2016 and doesn't have OTA update capability. I would imagine that the Bronco should have that capability, but I think that other updates, specifically for other components of the vehicle can only be implemented through OTA updates or the dealer.

Not with Sync 4. Your options are OTA, Wifi OTA, or FDRS

Since Ford started sending updates OTA 4-5 years ago, very few updates have been sent to any vehicle that requires wifi. In the case of the Broncos, I believe it was only one OTA that required wifi, and that was TCU update 23-PU113-UNX-DC which was only sent to 21-23 model years to fix a config issue in the TCU where the country code got changed to another country rendering the modem useless in the US market.

All OTA's download via the modem whether the truck is connected to wifi or not. The handshake between the vehicle and the server only happens through the modem. The updates that require wifi are congifuration only updates and not actual firmware updates.

Unfortunately, due to some recent changes Ford made in their cybersecurity, anyone who runs a VIN through FDRS without being plugged directly into the vehicle runs the risk of getting their account banned. AFAIK, checking for pending updates in PTS is still safe from the ban-stick, but in my case, Ford nerfed my PTS account and I can no longer check for pending updates.

If your Fordpass is connected, message me the VIN and I can check to see if you had any failed update attempts, if your connectivity is working right and if it is reporting any codes, but as far as what modules have pending updates, that I can no longer check.
