Black bear pass just opened less than a week ago - Just read that 2 guys in a jeep drove up in the wrong direction over night last night and got stuck on a switch back. Had to be towed out sometime this afternoon.

I live in the mountains between Ouray and Montrose. I'm up there quite a bit and might be up there tomorrow. I've lived here for 40 years and enjoyed every minute in those mountains.

Is black bear back open as mentioned above? I did engineer pass from Lake City and down mineral creek in badsquatch (some mods) last year. I am wanted to drive up from Angel Fire in the next few weeks (third or fourth week of July 25’) and do another pass and was told black bear closed.
Is it open? any others recommended passes in that area (ouray possibly to Telluride) that have some technical parts and beauty? Is there a group going in that time frame? I like safety of group for support? I had no issue at all with mineral springs and feel I could do black bear but wanted some input from veterans.

Black bear is open, but it definitely has some tough sections. The steps are a little nerve racking, but there are a couple places before the steps that seem worse to me personally. The steps scare people due to the drops to the side. There was a 4runner rolled before the steps a few days ago.
Imogene is the pass from Ouray to Telluride, but it's currently closed (at least a few days ago) on the Telluride side below the Smuggler. It's still a great drive to the top from Ouray and also to keep going to the Smuggler. You'll just be backtracking to Ouray.
I'd also run Hurricane, which is accessible from near the top of Red Mountain pass, in Ironton Park. I love the scenery off it and Mosquito pass.
We've done all except Black Bear in a stock 4dr Sasquatch.
