I used Permatex High Temperature Thread Sealant

I use loctite blue and loctite red high temp version ...they are all pretty much the same at consumer level and perfectly fine.

Whatever teflon tape I have in the garage from doing sprinklers and random other plumbing. I just make sure the threads are clean before doing 3 full wraps around the threads.

If it can hold 60psi off my well, it can hold a vented oil tank plug

Others have chimed in with recommendations. @CarbonSteel provides links of recommended products. I used his recommendation on the high density teflon tape. Works just fine.
