Primitive Camping & Fishing near Gunstock NH

My buddy and I are looking to spend a few days in the woods leading up to our Off-Rodeo reservation Aug 7. I’ll likely book a night at Gunstock Campground for afterwards so that we have easy access to hit the road in the morning.

I’m digging through apps like onX and iOverlander and not really finding much.

There are a few options an hour north, which I’m leaning towards exploring.

I’m mainly a spinning rod fisherman - interested in good bass and trout spots in the area. I’m always down for a hike to access a hole and prefer woodsy/rocky shore fishing.

Any tips are appreciated.

I know there's a big lake (Winnipesaukee) up there and that they host a Biker event in June (this year 6/12-18) in Laconia nearby. Search on those and I'm sure you'll find options.

This site goes deep. I had that bookmarked to get my license. Didn’t realize how in depth the links are.

Now to find some trails and camping after digging through the information provided on there.

Since I’m headed to Jericho in October for some heavy off-roading/camping - I think we’ll plan to do more easy access fishing during this trip to Gunstock. Squam Lake is appealing and looking into staying at Owl Landing. Then maybe we’ll hit Lake Waukewan before heading to Gunstock.

Not exactly the primitive/backwoods escape I was imagining - but I guess you have to go further north for that and it’s not in the cards for this trip.

Still open to any tips or advice from NH natives.
