Question about TrailRax Rails

in the process of putting a Trail Rax together I noticed that the eight rack pieces each had 2 t nut slots. Question: Which side of a rail faces? Up? Maybe it doesn’t matter?

The wider openings (the drop-in slots) must face upward.

BUT, you'd want the drop-in slots to face upward, that way you can install carriage bolts and whatnot without having to disassemble the rack itself... which is what you previously had to do before they added those openings a few years ago.

My rack originally didn't have those openings. TrailRax offered previous owners a good price to exchange rails when they made the change. I took them up on their offer.
