Rear A/C conversion?

By any chance have you thought of a rear A/C conversion system? A two hoses with connectors that attach to the existing plumbing under the seats. Run those to the bottom of the center console on both sides into a box that has vents.

I think it could be pretty easy since there are already things like cup holder mods that take the back off of the center console. Keep all the holes round to that it can be easily done with a drill to minimize mistakes in cutting and I think you’d be off to the races. I would be interested in purchasing such a package.

You have me intrigued. I can’t remember if I saw a post about that here or was it about adding interior lighting in the center console. I haven’t tried searching but I swear I saw something posted here in the last 1.5 years about that.

Problem is those vents are useless for AC. There’s no air moving through them unless your on the floor setting, so rerouting them up there is futile.

You'd have to take it off the auto setting and press the manual HVAC selector, but I'm willing to do that for my kiddo's comfort. I'm also looking in to blocking some of the ports on the front footwell so that more flow makes it to the back.

If Mabett is making something that will add vents and move that line over, I'm a day one buyer for sure.

Edit: You'd probably also have to connect that HVAC line in the center console too...seems like everybody does.


Edit 2:

So I went out and blocked my front footwell vents - all it did was start puking out the A-pillar vents. No change in rear seat flow. I'll probably go poking around schematics before i try anything else.

I'd be happy if there was any airflow from the under seat vents at all. We get nothing, no matter what the settings are on…

There are posts here on how to correct that. There's an HVAC line junction behind the point where the center console and the dash meet. Tons of 4-doors have been delivered with this junction disconnected. You just need to slide the top piece into the bottom piece. fwiw....it's still not much flow.

Yeah, I’ve seen that. I just haven’t had the time (or the desire) to rip into my center console and dick with it. And as you said, the “improvement” hardly seems worth the trouble…

Mabett has a Facebook page i follow and they showed the vents working. Put paper in front of them and it definitely had air flow
