Replacing trailer module?

So the ford dealership is saying my trailer module is out. Alert stays on my screen saying trailer is attached when it isn’t. Anyway they want 900 bucks to replace it, 250 of that for the part. I was wondering if anyone knows where this module is located on the bronco and if it’s just a plug and play thing or do I have to get the dealership to scan it or something. Thank you guys for any help. I really appreciate it.

It's in the driver's side rear cargo fender well. Mine is mounted externally (kind of next to the fuel filler, accessed from behind the tail light), some may be behind the internal panel though.

There is programming involved. You may be able to do it with forscan if you’re familiar with that though.

Also, I would double check there’s no corrosion in your trailer connector, that is very common on some vehicles and can give you the same message.

I did check the back trailer connector and didn’t see any corrosion but it’s possible the connectors on the module have corrosion. My top got ripped up from a tornado and the back got water in it. Hopefully that’s the case and I can just clean it. If I can find the damn thing. LOL

Looking at it, I have the older, 4-pin non-programmable only one. So the newer 4/7 pin programmable one is probably in a different spot. I would bet just on the other side of the body panel though - inside the rear cargo panel, driver's side (opposite of where the subwoofer is).

I can't seem to find any official installation instructions, but I know plenty of people here have DIYed it, probably a video or something showing the installation.
