The RTR Adjustable Tailgate Stop was designed to use the OEM damper and mounting location while limiting the swing of the tailgate. Have you ever been in a situation where your tailgate has overextended? Even with the factory rear tire and no accessories attached, the tailgate has been known to overextend. If your tailgate overextends, it has only one place to go and that's hitting your Bronco's chassis or busting out a taillight.

If you have accessories on your tailgate, those accessories add more weight to your tailgate making it even more susceptible to overextension.
  • Recommended for any Ford Bronco with or without added tailgate accessories
  • Limits tailgate movement to prevent body damage from accessories
  • Adds protection to factory tailgate damper
  • Stainless steel sliding links and hardware
  • Laser-engraved RTR Logo
  • RTR Adjustable Tailgate Stop Weighs 3lb
  • No cutting or permanent modification required

Anyone have additional pics of this item installed?

I’m curious how this bolts into the vehicle at the bumper, and how much clearance is needed. Attempting to learn if the limited arm would or would not be compatible with aftermarket rear bumpers.

Here are a few plus a quick vid of it opening. I did have to use the provided bumper/ body mount washers as it didn't clear the bumper. (look at their instructions on the site). Cleared once I lodged those in. Hope that helps.

My hardware rattled out of this after 3 moderate trail rides even with loctite. Anyone found a better more secure option to replace the two nuts and bolts in the limiter itself?

I used loctite, but that didn’t help. Mine kept loosening up and kept coming off it’s track.
The head of the bolts also kept somehow vibrating just the right way through the gap. It was pretty annoying.

One time I didn’t see it had slipped out, and ended up bending the aluminum guide pieces when I went to shut the tailgate.

The fasteners in that guide track seem like they need a better design solution. My buddy has the same issue with his as well. After he saw mine bend while we were out camping, he takes extra caution opening & closing his tailgate and checks the loose Guide bolts a LOT. And they either loosen up, or vibrate out too.

I debated ordering a replacement, but couldn’t justify how expensive it was to most likely have the same issue again or have to be so worried about the part failing each time I open the tailgate.

Pretty much what I expected, thanks for added experience. It’s a shame for how expensive they are to tarnish the brand with something so frustrating but easy to fix. I submitted a contact form to @RTR Vehicles site and will update if I hear back. Even the grinding of dirt and dust in the track deminishes the user experience. Mine is currently zip tied on and I’m ready to scrap the whole thing in favor of the M2M option at this point.

I was eyeing the simplicity of the M2M as well. Less to go wrong. But I don’t know anyone with experience with it yet.

Yep: a zip tie.

Holding in there better than the bolt. How sad is that btw?

Here's a few videos mentioning that item. I've put this through the ringer with no issues of loose parts. The kit does come with everything you need to install. Hope this helps!

Anyone following along, I’ve got an update from RTR customer service from the form I submitted on their site. After providing some details about where and when I purchased the tailgate limiter they are sending me a hardware kit at no cost. They said the hardware had been redesigned with a longer barrel nut and bolt to prevent this rattling out issue. Very happy with the quick customer service and will update once I get it installed w a review of changes. I originally purchased mine in early May of 2023, not sure when the updated design took effect.

I received and installed the updated hardware today and things look promising. The longer barrel tightens down all the way and new set of plastic spacers eliminate the previous metal scrapping. So far so good. I am optimistic the design issues have been rectified! Thank you @RTR Vehicles stellar customer service🤙
