Hey team,

If someone has a moment, can they point out to me exactly where under the 21+ bronco the catalytic converter is? Trying to see if it's covered by the "full body bash plate", or if it's otherwise rendered hard to access, and laying eyes on it might help me figure out whether I should put cycles into protecting mine when it comes in.

I did a bit of searching and saw others have asked similar questions but didn't really see the info I was looking for. I have general familiarity with the mechanical components of a vehicle, but I'm an embedded systems software engineer, not a mechanic. A photograph would be worth a thousand words.

They're tucked pretty far up there. The passenger side is the only one slightly visible. They're attached basically right off the turbo housings

Mostly thieves. It's been really bad here in Phoenix the thieves are brazen and don't seem too worried about getting caught.

the metal recyclers in Phoenix are pretty damn unscrupulous. it got bad enough that SRP (local power company) started painting all their wiring a very distinct blue, and then sent lawyers to every recycler in town and told them "If we find our paint in your yard, it will not go well for you."

We have ring of catalytic converter thieves here in San Diego and they take them to L.A. then ship them overseas 😪

Hearing this makes me grateful for a garage as well as the area I live in.

So to protect it from thieves, are you putting something like a skid plate to cover it?

That is perfect, thank you!

I agree we're probably pretty safe from attack. The thieves usually get under your car with a saws all and hack the cat out. Looks to me like if you tried that on a Bronco, you would risk taking your own hand off in the process.

So what is the verdict? Do we need to add additional skid/bash plates to prevent theft? I’m in the Phoenix area and have heard stories of thefts during the day in parking garages. Such as the one I use for work! At home, it’s always in the garage. Not taking any chances so if I need to add some additional armor, I will.
