PCM updates will wipe your tune if they install.

This^
Plus whatever it installs will then be wiped if you reinstall the tune lol
(unless Ford has already installed it in the latest procal calibration, but I doubt it)

I fell like I'm giving Ford too much credit to know anyone has the Performance Tune installed and preventing the PCM OTA update. Is this something you constantly have to monitor and check your ProCal to see if your tune is still installed? Or better to just turn off OTA?

It's definitely possible it knows. I'd say there's actually a very good chance that may be why it's not installing.
But personally, I would always turn off OTAs with a tune.

For a procal tune, it doesn't matter that much, because even the factory tune is still safe.
But for people with custom tunes, it could do a lot of damage if it actually goes through.
For instance, mine is currently tuned on E85 with a lot of other stuff like aftermarket turbos, if an OTA went through on mine, the engine could blow up lol

Personally, I have auto updates turned off for this same reason. My Ford's are both tuned with Livernois and I know with them, it is very easy to get an updated tune with the new PCM strategy after an update.

In the case of the Ford ProCal tunes, I have been curious to see how they handle this.

@Ducati1098 What did the OTA dashboard show as the reason the OTA failed?

Manifest Current Assembly Does Not Match With From Assembly In Manifest"

Which to me sounds like it may know the calibration isn't factory..?

@rugedraw It's failed it 28 times now, but in the middle of all those, it did the GWM update perfectly fine
A manifest mismatch is a back-end server issue. I don't think the tune is causing it to fail. When this happens, the GWM module is doing its job and preventing the server from sending file(s) that don't line up with what the vehicle should be getting. Or, the manifest itself is corrupted or wrong. Either way, it's a server issue. There is nothing you can do but use FDRS to apply it or continue to wait for Ford to get their shit together and fix it. I'd be curious to see if others are having the same issue with this OTA. Usually these things are not vehicle specific and OTAs start failing left and right for everyone.

Good to know.
Sounds like @ThunderFlash is having the same issues I think

I just saw his post. I think it is safe to assume we will be seeing many more cases of this OTA failing. One is a coincidence, but two is the start of a pattern.

To anyone with a tune, I would just consider myself lucky and move on.

@Ducati1098 @rugedraw FWIW, it was also in Ford service the past two days completing the seat bolt recall and replacing a cracked washer reservoir. I know they did the basic inspections for fluids, filters, etc. Not sure if that includes a software check/update or not. Got it back late yesterday and this morning is when I saw the failure notice again.

Most dealers usually won’t go looking at potential software updates unless it’s related to a concern.

Yeah, got the tune and got the fail. I've been keeping my Procal away from my computer for updates....and away from my Bronco...for fear my ASS will get reincarnated. It's still on our '24 and every time I drive it, I'm like "WTF!....oh."

Interesting. Maybe the tune does have something to do with it. We will have to wait and see if it happens to anyone without a tune.

This is a heads up for anyone like me that did the procal tune a while ago and haven't touched it since. I don't have this exact issue, I'm in a different Procal limbo state. I'm a couple months without resolution, my Procal can't re-program my Bronco. Ford Performance tech was helping, but nothing for a month. They did something with the stock .bin files, an engineer was supposed to do something else, no clue at this point. I had an ASE shop where I bought the Procal, they installed the tune in 2024, this is what I got when I tried to go back to stock this May. I immediately called tech support, I didn't want to mess up anything worse.

What I was told by Ford Performance tech support, you must disable auto updates, remove the Procal tune before updating and also before taking to a dealer in case they do an update. Something about updates changing IDs and creating a mismatch to the Procal. But who knows, I'm still in limbo.
